Women’s Hockey Announces 2021-22 Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team held its annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 3. Five graduating players and six different award winners were recognized.
 
The Friars finished the season with a 16-14-6 overall record and 12-12-3 mark in Hockey East. Head Coach Matt Kelly reached his fourth-consecutive Hockey East Tournament with the team.
 
Graduating team members Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario), Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden), Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) and Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) were honored at the banquet for their contributions to the program.
 
In addition to senior presentations, the coaching staff presented the six team awards: Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, the Unsung Hero Award, the Coaches Award and the Academic Award.
 
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) was named the team's Offensive Player of the year. She played in all 34 games and finished the season with 19 points from nine goals and 10 assists. She posted three multi-point games and netted the overtime game-winning goal against Holy Cross on Feb. 5.
 
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) was tabbed the team's Defensive Player of the Year after a stand-out junior campaign. She appeared in all 36 games for the Friars and tallied 10 assists and 47 blocks along with a +5 rating. Her 47 blocked shots proved to be fifth-best in the Hockey East.
 
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) took home the Rookie of the Year award. Hendrikson played in all 36 games, tallying three goals and seven assists in her inaugural campaign. She recorded 31 shots, 24 blocked shots and netted the game-winning goal at Union on Oct. 22.
 
The Unsung Hero Award was presented to Delaney Couture (Shrewsbury, Mass.). She played in 27 games for the Friars, registering eight points on five goals and three assists. She recorded her first collegiate and game-tying goal at Northeastern (Nov. 2) and finished the season with a team-high +7 rating.
 
Caroline Peterson (East Falmouth, Mass.) earned the Coaches Award after captaining the team in the 2021-22 season. She played in all 36 games this season, registering a team-leading 11 goals and six assists for 17 points. She finished the season with a +4 plus-minus, 41 blocked shots, and recorded her second-consecutive season with double digit points.
 

The Academic Award was presented to the player with the highest cumulative grade point average from the spring semester of 2021 through the fall semester of this current season. Junior defenseman Jamie Comeau (Wakefield, R.I.). earned the award with a 3.909 GPA.
