Women’s Hockey Comeback Falls Short; Falls To No. 14/RV Holy Cross, 2-1

Jessie Pellerin scored the lone goal for the Friars.

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Providence College women's hockey team fell to No. 14/RV Holy Cross, 2-1, on Friday, Jan. 23 at Hart Center Rink in Worcester, Mass. The Friars moved to 7-16-2 overall and 4-9-2 in Hockey East play while the Crusaders improved to 17-7-1 overall and 9-6-1 in conference action. Sophomore Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) scored the lone goal for Providence, marking her third goal in four games.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
1st Period
-Holy Cross opened the scoring at 16:37 of the first period following a faceoff win. Emily Crovo scored with assists from Naemi Herzig.
 
-The Friars were outshot 12-3 in the opening 20 minutes. Neither team had a power-play opportunity.
 
2nd Period
-The Crusaders doubled their lead to 2-0 at 4:58 of the second period on Emily Crovo's second goal of the game. Violet Carroll recorded the lone assist.
 
-Each team had a power-play opportunity in the period but failed to convert. Holy Cross held a 20-10 shots-on-goal advantage through two periods.
 
3rd Period
-With the extra skater on, Providence cut the deficit to 2-1 with 2:29 remaining in regulation as sophomore Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) redirected a shot for her third goal in four games. Senior Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) and sophomore Emma Hofbauer (Vomperbach, Austria) earned assists on the play. Cavaliere recorded an assist for the fourth consecutive game.
 
-The Friars pulled goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) again in the final minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
 
Notes
-Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 21 saves for Providence.
 
-Providence now leads the all-time series against Holy Cross, 21-1-1.
 
-The Friars fell to 3-11-0 on the road this season.
 
-Providence is now 3-10-0 against ranked opponents this season.
