PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Holy Cross, 1-0, in overtime on Oct. 2 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
Nora Goddard-Despot scored the game-winning goal with 1:58 left in the overtime session.
1ST QUARTER:
• The first quarter of play was scoreless (0-0).
• Providence led in shots (3-0), shots on goal (1-0) and penalty corners (1-0).
2ND QUARTER:
• The game remained scoreless heading into halftime.
• The Crusaders held a 3-1 advantage in shots during the frame, while Providence was awarded the only offensive corner of the quarter.
• At the break, Providence led in shots (4-3), shots on goal (2-1) and corners (2-0).
3RD QUARTER:
• The game remained knotted at 0-0 through three quarters of action.
• Providence attempted two shots in the frame, both of which landed on target. Holy Cross took one shot attempt, which was turned away by
Asia Porter for her second save of the afternoon.
4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars recorded three corners and two shots in the fourth, but still could not find the back of the cage. Meanwhile, Holy Cross attempted one shot and the two teams finished regulation in a scoreless draw (0-0).
OVERTIME:
• The Friars spent the first 4:48 of the overtime period down a player and fended off two Holy Cross penalty corners to keep the play going.
• It marked Holy Cross' only penalty corners of the game.

Nora Goddard-Despot (North Vancouver, British Columbia) stole the ball of the stick of a Holy Cross defender 25-yards from the Friars' cage. She carried the ball into the circle and slipped the game winner over the goal line through traffic.
Providence held a 3-2 advantage in shots during the extra period.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence finished the game with advantages in shots (11-7), shots on goal (8-4) and corners (5-2).
• Porter completed the day with four saves for her second shut-out victory of the season.
• Goddard-Despot scored her second goal of the season and the second overtime game winner of her career. In 2019, she scored the game-winning goal in a 5-4 overtime victory over No. 24 Maine in Orono.
• The Friars are 2-0 in overtime this season, with both OT victories coming at Lennon Family Field.
• Providence improved to 3-1 at home on the year and 5-6 overall. Holy Cross dropped to 3-8.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will head to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on BIG EAST foe Temple on Friday, Oct. 7. The game will be played at 3:00 p.m. on Howarth Field. Providence returns home to Lennon Family Field to take on No. 23 Maine on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the match, the Friars will honor their senior class.
