Volleyball Travels To Merrimack College

The Friars will face the Warriors for the second time this season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  The Providence College volleyball team is set to face Merrimack College on Wednesday, September 8. The match will being at 7:00 p.m. in North Andover, Mass. It marks the second time this season that the Friars will match up with the Warriors.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars head into Wednesday's match with an overall record of 6-1. The Friars are coming off a big weekend at UNH's Holly Young Tournament, where they went 3-0.
 
Freshman Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) leads the Friar offense with 99 kills. She averages 3.67 kills per set and carries a .312 hitting percentage. Her 99 kills ranks second in the BIG EAST. She earned MVP of the Holly Young Tournament and was recognized on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on September 6. Rhoden is followed by Maryanne Boyle (Blacklick, Ohio) and Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas), who have tallied 47 and 44 kills, respectively.
 
Graduate student Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has a total of 283 assists on the season. Barber ranks second in the BIG EAST, averaging 10.48 assists per set.
 
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has been a key player in the line up. Taylor leads Providence in digs (98) and tallies 3.62 digs per set. She also has contributed 25 assists and 11 service aces to the Providence offense.  
 
SCOUTING THE WARRIORS: The Merrimack College Warriors have an overall record of 0-7. Merrimack last played Austin Peay, Marist and Harvard at the Harvard Invitational. The Warriors lost to Austin Peay and Marist 0-3, before falling to Harvard 1-3.
 
Maegan Hladick and Sydney Green lead the Warriors offensively, recording 35 and 34 kills, respectively.

Quinn Kellogg and Megan Rumenapp have been Merrimack's setters for the season. Kellogg has totaled 65 assists and Rumenapp has recorded 56.  
 
Taelyr Czech has led the defense, with 49 digs. Brooke Leestma follows closely, having recorded 46.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:The Friars return to Providence to host The 16th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on September 10-11. The tournament will consist of six matches over two days. The participating teams joining the Friars are Binghamton, Fairleigh Dickinson and St. Peter's. The Friars first match will be Friday, September 10 at 7:00 p.m. against St Peter's.
