WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to No. 20 Monmouth, 7-0, on Sunday, Sept. 19 in West Long Branch, N.J. The Friars recorded a season-high 13 penalty corners, but it was the Hawks who netted five of seven goals off of set pieces.
1ST QUARTER:
• The Hawks recorded the first three shot attempts of the game, all coming from Hanna McKie.
• On her third shot, McKie gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead 6:00 minutes into the game.
• The Friars answered by earning two penalty corners and recorded four shot attempts over the next two and a half minutes.
• One shot sailed wide, while three others were saved by Monmouth's goalkeeper Ally Tarantino.
• Monmouth held its 1-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
• Providence led in shots (4-2), shots on goals (3-2) and penalty corners (2-1).
2ND QUARTER:
• McKie netted her second goal at 19:09, off a rebound from her initial shot on a penalty corner.
• McKie was credited with the Hawks' first five shots of the game.
• Annick van Lange made it a three-goal lead at 29:22 as she scored off a penalty corner, assisted by Meg Lange and Sophie Dercksen.
• The Hawks outshot the Friars 4-0 in the second corner, with both goals coming off set pieces.
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars earned their third penalty corner of the game just 2:44 into the second half, but
Niamh Gowing's shot attempt was wide of the cage.
• Lorane Vanneste helped Monmouth take advantage of another penalty corner opportunity, scoring off a rebound at 37:41 to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
• The Friars held a 6-4 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in corners, but could not get the ball over the goal line.
4TH QUARTER:
• Van Lange capitalized on a Monmouth rush to the cage, converting a goal high into the cage at 52:51.
• Van Lange tacked on another goal off a set piece 23-seconds later (53:14). She was assisted by Dercksen and Julianna Carletti.
• The Friars were unable to clear the ball out of the circle after a flurry of shots late in the fourth and Dercksen scored the Hawks' seventh goal of the game after knocking home a centering feed by Colleen Craven.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence recorded a season-high 13 penalty corners vs. the Hawks, but was held off the scoreboard.
• The Friars were outshot 17-15 (12-5 SOG).
• Providence held a 13-7 edge in corners.
• The Friars evened their record to 4-4 on the year. Providence is 4-0 at home on Lennon Family Field and 0-4 on the road.
