PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will open BIG EAST Conference action against Villanova on Friday, Sept. 17 at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FloSports.
Providence will remain on the road to face non-conference foe Monmouth, who is currently ranked 20
th in the most recent NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll. The Friars and Hawks will square off at 11:00 a.m. in West Long Branch, N.J.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (4-2, 0-0 BIG EAST):
• Midfielder
Lisa McNamara (Barre, Vt.) and forward
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ireland) are tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points each. McNamara has two goals and a team-best six assists, while Gowing has notched four goals and two assists.
• McNamara leads the BIG EAST in assists per game (1.00) and ranks fourth in the nation among NCAA Division I players.
• Forward
Olivia Ward (Havelock North, New Zealand) is third on the team in scoring with eight points on four goals.

Asia Porter has played impressively in goal for the Friars and ranks among the top-five NCAA Division I goalkeepers in save percentage (fifth, 0.842) saves per game (third, 9.60). Porter leads the BIG EAST in each of those categories and third in goals against average (1.69).
• Nine different players on the roster have recorded a goal or an assist in the Friars' first six games.
• Fourteen of the 24 players on the Friars' roster are first and second-year players, who will embark on their first full fall season of collegiate field hockey.
• Junior
Nora Goddard-Despot (North Vancouver, British Columbia) was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Goddard-Despot recently returned from Santiago, Chile, where she competed for Canada at the 2021 Junior Pan American Championships (Aug. 21-29). The Canadians won the gold medal. After missing the Friars' first two games, she made her 2021 season debut with the Friars against Maine and Harvard.
• The remainder of the roster consists of two graduate students, three seniors and five juniors.
• Providence College was picked to finish fifth in the 2021 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll (20 points), sitting just ahead of Villanova in sixth (22 points).
• The Friars have qualified for 10 of the last 15 BIG EAST Tournaments. In the spring, the Friars fell short of tournament qualification, snapping a streak of four-consecutive appearances.
• Providence leads the all-time series against Villanova, 25-11-2, and have earned victories in each of the last four meetings between the two teams.
• The last meeting dates back to Oct. 4, 2019, when Providence earned a 3-1 victory in Conshohocken, Pa.
• Villanova last defeated Providence during the 2015 campaign (3-1). It marked the last match between the two teams at Villanova Stadium. Since then, the Friars are 2-0 against Villanova at The Proving Grounds.
• Providence is 2-0 vs. Monmouth all-time. In 2003, the Friars defeated the Haws, 1-0, in West Long Branch, N.J. In 2006, Providence earned a 6-0 victory against Monmouth at Lennon Family Field.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA (2-4, 0-0 BIG EAST):
• Villanova enters the weekend with a 2-4 overall record and is in the midst of a three-game winless streak.
• The Wildcats opened the season 2-1, with victories over Lehigh (4-3) and Bucknell (3-1).
• Meghan Mitchell leads Villanova in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist.
• Sabine de Ruijter is second in scoring (six points) and joins Mitchell for the team lead in goals (three).
• Caitlin van Goeverden rounds out the multi-goal scorers on the roster, with two. She is tied for second on the team in scoring (six points).
• Seven different players have scored a goal for the Wildcats.
• Jordan McGinley has played 312 minutes in the cage for Villanova and owns a 1-4 record. She has recorded a 3.27 goals against average and a 0.585 save percentage.
• Emma Leppert has appeared in two games for Villanova. She was the goalkeeper of record in Villanova's victory over Lehigh to open the season. She holds a 4.00 goals against average and a 0.625 save percentage.
SCOUTING NO. 20 MONMOUTH:
• The Hawks enter the weekend with a 4-2 record and are ranked 20
th in the NFHCA Division I Coaches' Poll.
• Monmouth will face No. 10 Rutgers on Friday in New Brunswick, N.J. before hosting Providence on Sunday.
• Their current national ranking in the national poll is the highest in program history.
• Monmouth opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Boston University before rattling off four-consecutive victories.
• During the win streak, Monmouth defeated then-No. 17 Delaware, 3-2, on the road.
• In the Hawks' most recent game, Monmouth fell to No. 15 Harvard, 1-0, in overtime on Sept. 12.
• Lorane Vanneste and Annick van Lange are tied for the team lead in scoring with 12 points apiece on five goals and two assists. The two are ranked 12
th among NCAA Division I players in points per game (2.40).
• Hanna McKie is third on the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist.
• Ally Tarantino has appeared in five games and owns a 4-1 record in goal. She owns a 3.00 goals against average and a 0.552 save percentage.
• Kate O'Hogan started the Hawks' most recent game against Harvard. She allowed one goal and made one save in the loss.
• Monmouth is averaging 2.67 goals per game, but also have given up 2.33 goals a game to their opponents.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• After wrapping up play on the road against Villanova and Monmouth, the Friars will return home to Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. to host Georgetown in BIG EAST action. The game is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 24 at 6:00 p.m.
