Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Sacred Heart In Home Opener

Providence defeated Sacred Heart with four different goal scorers.


Providence R.I. –
The Providence College women's soccer team shut out Sacred Heart, 4-0, in its home opener on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on August 25. Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) scored the first goal for the Friars just 2:49 into the the first half.  Freshman Maria Paveglio (Lake Orion, Mich.) followed with her first career goal at 17:49 of the first half. Junior Angie Suaza (Nashua, N.H.) scored her first career goal in the first minute of the second half. Sophomore Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.) wrapped up the Friars' scoring in the second half with her first goal of the season in the 65th minute.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-In the 2nd minute of the first half, Birchwell, scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Meg Hughes.
- The Friars controlled the ball offensively throughout the first half.
- In the 17th minute, Paveglio scored her first career goal with an assist from Birchwell and Braun.
- The Friars outshot the Pioneers, 9-1, in the first half.  
- In the 45th minute Suaza scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Ava Brandt.
-Gallagher scored her first goal of the season in the 65th minute with an assist from Paveglio.
-Emma Bodmer earned her fifth career shutout.
- Birchwell and Paveglio each had three points to lead the Friar offense.
-Friars will return to action with their second road game of the season at Rutgers on Sunday at 5 p.m.
