Field Hockey Picked Fifth In BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll

Junior midfielder Nora Goddard-Despot named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST Conference released its 2021 preseason awards and coaches' poll for field hockey today [Aug. 19]. The Providence College Friars were picked to finish fifth (22 points) by the league's coaches. Junior midfielder Nora Goddard-Despot (North Vancouver, British Columbia) was one of 12 student-athletes named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
 
Connecticut edged out Liberty for the top spot in the preseason poll with 46 points and four first-place votes. The Flames were picked second with 45 points and collected the remaining four first-place votes. Old Dominion (38 points) and Temple (31 points) rounded out the top four spots.
 
Goddard-Despot started all 11 games for the Friars during the abbreviated spring 2021 season. She registered three points on one goal and one assist. During her two-year career, she has played in 26 games overall and owns five points on two goals and one assist.
 
Goddard-Despot is currently preparing to compete with Canada's Junior Women's National Team at the 2021 Pan American Cup, which is scheduled for August 21-29 in Santiago, Chile. She is one of 16 field players to earn a roster spot representing her country.
 
Providence College will open its 2021 fall campaign with a pair of home games against Bryant (Aug. 27) and Boston University (Aug. 29) at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars open BIG EAST action against Villanova on Sept. 17 at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa.
