The Friars open the weekend on Friday, Sept. 11 with an 11:00 a.m. match against Sacred Heart at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will hit the road to play a pair of non-conference games this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 11, the Friars will face Sacred Heart at 11:00 a.m. at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Providence will close the weekend at Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 13. The game will be played at 12:00 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (3-1):
• Providence College enters the weekend with a 3-1 record.
• The Friars have won three-straight games since dropping their season opener at Boston College (3-1).
• Providence has earned shut-out victories in each of its last two games vs. New Haven (11-0) on Sept. 4 and Bryant (3-0) on Sept. 6.
• The Friars' 11 goals vs. New Haven on Sept. 4 set a single-game program record. The previous record (nine) was set on two occasions in games against Conn College (1980) and Fairfield (1985).
• Senior Lily Procaccianti leads the Friars' offense with eight points on four goals.
• All four of her goals were scored in a pair of games last weekend. She netted her first career hat trick on Sept. 4 against New Haven and followed with the eventual game-winning goal vs. Bryant on Sept. 6.
• Procaccianti was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8.
• Senior Carly van Benten ranks second on the team in scoring with six points on three goals.
• She recorded the first multi-goal game of her career during Providence's 3-2 win over Boston University, with two scores.
• Junior Martu Torre Festa missed the first two games of the 2026 season with an injury, but returned to the field last weekend vs. New Haven and Hofstra. She recorded one goal and three assists. Her three assists lead the team this season.
• Johanna Mahner was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 8 following back-to-back shut-out victories over New Haven and Bryant. She helped the Friars' defensive line hold New Haven without a shot attempt on Sept. 4 and also tallied one assist. On Sept. 6, she scored her first goal of the season and played a key role in limiting Bryant to six shot attempts, including just two shots over the final 45 minutes of the game.
• The Friars returned 97-percent of their offensive production from last season, accounting for 35 of the team's 36 goals and 30 of the team's 31 assists in 2025.
• Seniors Bo Martina and Procaccianti each eclipsed the 20-point mark last season. Martina finished with 22 points on nine goals and four assists, while Procaccianti paced Providence with 10 goals and added one assist for 21 points.
• Procaccianti became the first player to record 10-or-more goals in a season since 2014. That year, Daniella Bernasconi (15), Megan Hamilton (15) and Steph Guglielmo (13) all recorded double-digit goals.
• Van Benten finished third on the team in scoring with 18 points on five goals and a team-best eight assists.
• Martina was named Preseason BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year on Aug. 19. She also was a unanimous selection on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
• Van Benten joined Martina on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
• Last season, Martina claimed All-BIG EAST First-Team honors and was named BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year. She is the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year honors and is one of 12 players in program history to be named to the first team in multiple seasons (2024, 2025).
• Van Benten earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors in 2025.
• Sophomore Ava Porter is the lone returning goalkeeper for the Friars in 2026 and is joined by graduate transfer Pauline Gineste, who spent the previous four seasons at American.
• As a freshman, Porter started 16 games for the Friars and posted an 8-8 record with two shut-out victories. She registered a 1.64 goals against average and a 0.748 save percentage.
• Gineste started 17 games last season for the Eagles and posted a 10-5 overall record, including a 6-0 mark in the Patriot League. She registered four shut-out victories, a 1.14 goals against average and a 0.767 save percentage.
• This season, Porter has played three games and owns a 2-1 record with one shutout. She has recorded a 1.33 goals against average and a 0.714 save percentage. Gineste has played one game and recorded a shutout vs. New Haven.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART (0-3):
• Sacred Heart enters the weekend with a 0-3 record.
• Two of the Pioneers' three losses have been decided by one goal, including one match decided in overtime.
• Sacred Heart fell to No. 19 Yale, 3-0, in its most recent match on Sept. 4.
• The Pioneers were picked to finish third in the 2026 NEC Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Sacred Heart returned reigning NEC Goalkeeper of the Year Brianna Cooper.
• Cooper and Ruby Butler have split time in goal this season. Cooper has played 97 minutes and owns a 3.09 goals against average and 0.286 save percentage. Butler has played 90 minutes and owns a 2.0 goals against average and 0.700 save percentage.
• The Pioneers also returned All-NEC First Team selection and NFHCA All-Region pick, Celia Benson.
• Hailey Vogt is the Pioneers' leading returning scorer from 2005. Vogt is one of three players on the roster this season to have recorded a goal.
• Sacred Heart midfielder Joey Pompeo is the younger sister of former Friar Sophia Pompeo '23. Sophia played 64 career games for the Friars, including 45 appearances in the starting line-up. She recorded 29 points on 13 goals and three assists with the Friars.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA (2-1):
• Hofstra enters the weekend with a 2-1 record and will face Quinnipiac on Friday, Sept. 11 before hosting the Friars on Sunday.
• The Pride have secured wins over Rider (2-1) and Wagner (5-4, OT). Their only loss of the season came against Bryant (2-1) on Aug. 30.
• Malena Bertone leads Hofstra's offense with eight points on four goals, and she has scored the game-winning goal in each of Hofstra's two victories this season.
• Bertone is a two-time CAA Rookie of the Week selection.
