Field Hockey Closes Regular Season Against No. 17 ODU

Friars will face the Monarchs in back-to-back games on April 16-17 with a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament on the line.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will look to secure its fifth-straight appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament as it faces No. 17 Old Dominion in back-to-back games on April 16-17. One victory in the last two games will punch a ticket to the tournament for the fifth-consecutive season, and 11th time in the last 15 years.
 
The matches will take place at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa. and each game is scheduled to begin at Noon.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
• The Friars are coming off a 2-0 loss against No. 10 Boston College.
• Providence gave up one goal to the nationally-ranked Eagles in the field of play, with the second coming on a penalty-stroke opportunity.
• Freshman goalkeeper Asia Porter recorded a career-high 17 saves in the game, including 12 in the first half.
• Junior Niamh Gowing leads the Friars in scoring with five points on two goals and one assist.
• Junior Amanda Collins and sophomore Nora Goddard-Despot each have recorded three points on one goal and one assist.
• Porter has appeared in four games for the Friars, totaling 243 minutes in the cage. She owns a 1.48 goals against average and a 0.778 save percentage. Porter also has the only shut-out of the season for Providence, which came against Quinnipiac (1-0) on April 3.
Camryn Kelbaugh has played 320 minutes in goal and owns a 2.25 goals against average and 0.625 save percentage.
 

SCOUTING OLD DOMINION:
• Old Dominion enters the weekend as a lock for the BIG EAST Tournament and is ranked 17th in the nation.
• Marlon de Bruijne leads the Monarchs with 24 points on 12 goals. Two of her 12 goals have been game winners.
• Riley Taylor (18 points) and Delphine Le Jeune (10 points) also have cracked double digits in the points column. Taylor has recorded five goals and eight assists, while Le Jeune owns three goals and four assists.
• Only two other players have scored for ODU, as the above-mentioned trio has combined to score 20 of the Monarch's 24 goals overall.
• ODU is 6-4 on the year, with three of its four losses coming against fellow BIG EAST opponent Liberty.
• Cam MacGillivray has played 610 minutes in the cage and owns a 1.67 goals against average and a 0.667 save percentage.
