PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team fell to 10
th-ranked Boston College, 2-0, in its final home game of the season at Lennon Family Field on April 14. Prior to the game, the Friars honored their three seniors:
Sydney Cramer,
Maddie Babineau and
Olivia Ward.
FIRST QUARTER:
• Boston College outshot Providence, 5-0, in the first quarter.
• The Eagles managed to draw back-to-back penalty corners with no time left on the clock, but Providence's defense held firm to end the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
• The Eagles got on the scoreboard at the 17:42 mark as Sky Caron converted a goal off a crossing pass from Jaime Natale.
• Despite tremendous pressure from the Boston College attack, the Friars were able to keep the score at 1-0 into halftime.
• Freshman goalkeeper
Asia Porter was solid for the Friars in goal in the opening 30 minutes. She faced 14 shots overall, including 13 attempts on goal, and registered 12 saves.
THIRD QUARTER:
• The Friars held a 2-1 advantage in shots and penalty corners in the third quarter, but bids from
Sydney Cramer and
Sophia Pompeo were turned away.
• Boston College was awarded a penalty stroke opportunity at 44:32 as Porter came out to play a dangerous ball and clipped the Eagles' attacking player.
• Caron converted the attempt, giving Boston College a 2-0 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Boston College recorded a 5-1 advantage in shots and held a 5-0 edge in penalty corners in the final frame.
• The 10
th-ranked Eagles were held off the board and completed the game with a 2-0 victory.
NOTES:
• Porter finished the game with a career-high 17 saves.
• The Friars will return to action with a pair of BIG EAST Conference games against Old Dominion on April 16 and April 17 at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa.
• A win in one of the final two games will put the Friars into the BIG EAST Field Hockey Tournament for a fifth-consecutive season and 11
th time in the last 15 years.
