PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Northeastern, 2-1, in overtime on Thursday, April 1 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
Providence drew a corner just 51-seconds into the game, but
Marlies Kool's attempt was cleared away by Northeastern's defense. Northeastern responded on the offensive end, drawing a penalty corner of their own at the 4:07 mark. Cailin Hart converted, scoring from the left side of the circle on a direct shot, assisted by Angela Connolly.

Northeastern took a 1-0 lead into halftime, with advantages in shots (6-1), shots on goal (2-1) and corners (3-1).

Niamh Gowing started the third quarter in the same fashion she began the first, drawing a penalty corner on the Friars' first offensive possession. Gowing took the attempt off the corner and was denied and
Nora Goddard-Despot picked up the rebound and lost control of it wide of the cage. Providence went on to outshoot the Huskies, 3-0, in the third quarter with a 2-0 edge in penalty corners.

The Friars leveled the score, 1-1, at 49:10 when
Bella Carrozza picked up a ball in the midfield and found
Olivia Ward in the right side of the circle. Ward crossed the ball to Gowing who deflected the ball into the cage at the left post.

The two teams went to overtime, where Northeastern got the game-winning goal 3:14 into the extra session. Melanie Weber carried the ball into the lower left side of the circle and found the bottom right of the cage, unassisted.

Northeastern outshot Providence, 11-6, in the game and held a 6-3 advantage in corners.

Asia Porter recorded two saves for the Friars, while Erin Savage collected three saves for the Huskies.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, April 3 against BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
