Providence, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams open up their seasons at the Raleigh on March 25-27. The event will be held at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility.
On the men's side, graduate student
AJ Ernst (Marblehead, Mass.) and
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass) will lead the Friars. Ernst, a transfer from Virginia, is set to compete in the 1,500-meters and Rocha toes the line in the 10,000-meters.
Headlining the Friar women will be
Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) in the 5,000-meter and
Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) in the 10,000-meters. In her last race, at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 12, Wheeler finished fifth in the 5,000-meters. Wheeler's fifth-place finish earned First-Team All-America Honors.
