PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team is set to open its 2020-21 campaign against Rhode Island on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars open the season with three games on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, where the team posted an 5-4-1 home record last season. Head Coach

Friars in 2019… The Friars finished with an 8-9-3 overall record and 3-5-2 mark in the BIG EAST Conference during the 2019 season. Providence finished tied for sixth in conference play and made a run to the BIG EAST Semifinal for the third-consecutive season.
The Friars earned four All-BIG EAST selections in 2020.
Shelby Hogan was the lone Friar on the All-BIG EAST First Team. It marked the second-consecutive season she was listed on the First Team.
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) was named to the Second Team for the second-straight season.
Alexis Rothmann (Norwell, Mass.) and
Lisa Verhoeven (Bunde, Netherlands) earned All-BIG EAST Freshman Team Honors.
Friars Picked Third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll East Division… The BIG EAST Conference announced its Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll on Monday, Feb. 1. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BIG EAST has split into two divisions for the upcoming season. The East Division is comprised of: Georgetown, Villanova, Providence, UConn, St. John's and Seton Hall. The MidWest Division is: Xavier, DePaul, Butler, Marquette and Creighton. The Friars were picked to finish third among 6 BIG EAST schools behind Georgetown and Villanova.
McNulty was the lone Friar to receive preseason recognition. McNulty was a unanimous selection on the Preseason-All BIG EAST Team. She started all 20 games for the Friars last season. She led the team in points (18) and goals (nine), including four game-winners. McNulty went on to earn All-BIG EAST First-Team honors at the conclusion of the season.
Newcomers… The Friars welcome eight freshman and two transfers to the squad. Incoming freshman include
Emma Bodmer (Monrow Township, N.J.),
Emily McCalligett (Warwick, R.I.),
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.),
Anna Kalooski (Greene, R.I.),
Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.),
Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.),
Grace Murphy (Penfield, N.Y.) and
Samantha Adams (Northport, N.Y.). Esther Rønn (Copenhagen, Denmark) joins the Friars after spending a year at the University of Copenhagen while
Sara Vijfhuizen (Bilthoven, The Netherlands) transferred from NAIA's University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Both transfers have three years of eligibility.
Series History Against Rhode Island… Providence will face Rhode Island for the 29
th time in program history on Sunday, Feb. 14 and first time since the 2014 season. The Friars lead the all-time series with a 17-8-3 record against the Rams. The most recent result came as a 1-1 draw in double overtime in Providence, R.I. on Aug. 22.
Scouting the Rams… Rhode Island enters the season picked last in the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll. In 2019, the team finished 4-9-5 overall. The Rams welcome back leading goal scorer Rebecca D'Anna, who had eight goals last season. Captain Brooke Osmanski returns for the Rams after missing the 2019 season due to injury.
