Providence, R.I. – The Providence women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over the Rhode Island Rams in their season opener on Sunday, February 14 in Providence, R.I. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Freshman
Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) earned her first career win and shutout in goal. Senior
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) and freshman
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) tallied the goals for Providence.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Rhode Island took the first shot of the game in the fifth minute. Bodmer grabbed her first save in the lower right corner of the net.
-
Samantha Adams (Northport, N.Y.) had the first good look for the Friars in the 32
nd minute with a from 12 yards out. The Rams keeper corralled the ball for the save.
-Bodmer kept the game locked at zero after making a leaping save in the 38
th minute for her second save of the afternoon.
-Birchwell gave the Friars the advantage in the 63
rd minute of play off a blocked shot made by
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.). Birchwell corralled the ball and found the back of the net past Teresa Morrissey to make the score 1-0.
-In the 90
th minute, Hughes scored her first career goal at the top of the net to put the Friars up by two.
-The Friars controlled the ball in the second half and outshot the Rams 9-2 with four of those shots on goal.
-Bodmer got her first career win and shutout in net.
