Christopher Roman and Armaan Wilson each scored a goal for the Friars.


PROVIDENCE, R.I.
 – The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Marist, 2-0, on Nov. 18 in the First Round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament. The Friars will advance to the Second Round to face defending National Champion Marshall on Sunday, Nov. 21 at Hoops Family Field in Huntington, West Virginia. Marshall earned the No. 14 seed in this year's tournament. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 p.m.

GAME FLOW
• The Friars earned the first dangerous scoring opportunity of the evening in the 23rd minute. Chris Roman fired a shot from the middle of the box that deflected off the Marist goalkeeper. Brendan McSorley picked up the loose ball in the box and fired a right-footed blast high over the crossbar.
• In the 28th minute, Marist's Kyle Galloway attempted a shot from nearly 30-yards, looking to beat Friar goalkeeper Lukas Burns on the far left post. The effort was high and wide of the target, leading to a goal kick.
• In the 36th minute, McSorley found Kevin Vang in the middle of the box. Vang sent a well-struck ball just inches wide of the left post.
Christopher Roman got the Friars on the board for a 1-0 lead at 39:34 on a diving header into the left side of the goal. Armann Wilson and Gil Santos were credited with assists on the play.
• After the opening 45 minutes of play, Providence led in shots (10-2), shots on goal (5-0) and corner kicks (1-0).
• Burns made his first save of the night in the 58th minute on a shot attempt by Marist's Antek Sienkiel.
Gevork Diarbian nearly added an insurance goal for the Friars in the 62nd minute, but Sam Ilin got a glove on the ball to punch it over the crossbar and out of play for a corner.
• In 67th minute, Wilson put Providence ahead, 2-0. Diarbian was credited the assist as he fed a wide-open Wilson just outside the top of the box.  Wilson sent a right-footed shot high into the center of the goal over Ilin.
• Providence finished the match with a 16-6 advantage in shots (8-1 SOG) and a 6-1 edge in corners.
 
NOTES
• The Friars improved to 11-4-4 overall on the season, including a 6-0-2 mark at Anderson Stadium.
• Providence improved to 7-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament while playing on their home field, including a 3-0 mark on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
• Roman's first-half strike marked his third goal of the season and the fifth of his career.
• Santos, who made his season debut in the BIG EAST Semifinals, has recorded two assists in the last three games.
• Wilson earned his first career point in a postseason game with his assist vs. the Red Foxes. It marked his second assist of the season – and his career.
• Wilson's goal in the 67th minute marked the first of his career. He also set a single-game career high in points (three)
• Diarbian's assist marked his fifth of the season and sixth of his career.
