No. 9 Women’s Hockey Battles No. 8 Quinnipiac in Home-and-Home Series

Puck Drop
The No. 9 Providence College women's hockey team will face off against the No. 8 Quinnipiac University Bobcats in a home-and-home series on Friday, October 15 in Providence, R.I. and in Hamden, Conn. on Saturday, October 16. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in both games.
 
Scouting The Friars
The Friars are currently 2-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in Hockey East. Last weekend, the Friars hosted UNH and Northeastern for a pair of Hockey East matchups. The Friars defeated the Wildcats 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 8 before sweeping the previously ranked No. 2 Huskies, 3-0. Senior netminder Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) recorded 33 saves during Saturday's contest.
 
Sophomore Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) recorded four points over the two games, earning three assists against UNH and one goal over Northeastern. Graduate student Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) also had an impressive weekend performance, recording two goals including the game-winner in Friday night's win over New Hampshire, matching a career-high. Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) also added two goals over the weekend as well as an assist for three points.

Abstreiter has started both games in net. She holds a .982 save percentage and a 0.50 goals against average. The netminder has made 56 total saves on the season with one shutout.
 
USCHO Division I Women's Poll: October 11th 2021
As of Oct. 11, the Friars are slotting in at number nine in the USCHO NCAA Women's Hockey rankings. Providence received 32 points, tying Cornell University for the ninth spot.
 
Hockey East Award Winners
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) weas named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct.11. Abstreiter was recognized for her efforts between the pipes after a weekend sweep over UNH and No. 2 Northeastern, posting a combined 56 saves. On Saturday afternoon's game against No. 2 Northeastern, Abstreiter shut-out the Huskies, recording 33 saves over the three periods. Abstreiter finished the opening weekend of Hockey East play with a .982 save percentage and a .50 goals against average.
 
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes six new players to the roster for the 2021-22 season. Ashlyn Garnett (Nova Scotia, Canada) comes from Canada as the remaining five enter Providence from the United States; Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas), Kailey Sato (South Pasadena, Calif), Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.), Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.), and Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.)
 
Captains Named
Senior Caroline Peterson was named captain for the 2021-22 season, along with alternate captains Sandra AbstreiterLauren DeBlois, and Hunter Barnett.
 
Hockey East Preseason Poll 
The Friars were picked to finish second in the Hockey East Preseason poll, which was released on Thursday, Sept. 23. Providence received 75 points, finishing behind Northeastern (90). The Huskies, who went 22-2-1 overall last year and fell to No. 1 Wisconsin in the NCAA Championship game, received nine first place votes. Providence received the other lone first place vote.
 
Scouting the Bobcats
Quinnipiac is 6-0-0 overall and 0-0-0 in ECAC. The Bobcats, currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, are coming off a weekend sweep versus Saint Anselm by a score of 4-3 on Friday, Oct 8 and a 5-0 shutout on Saturday, Oct. 9. As a team, Quinnipiac averages 45.3 shots per game and holds a 16.7 conversion percentage on the power play with a 64.9 faceoff success percentage.  
 
Who to Watch
Junior Sadie Peart leaders the Bobcats in point production (13) on six goals and seven assists. Peart is followed by Alexa Hoskin (9), Lexie Adzija (8) and Jess Schryver (8) in points.
 
Graduate student Corrine Schroeder and senior Logan Angers have shared the time between the pipes for the Bobcats this season. Schroeder is posting a .67 GAA and a .957 save percentage while Angers holds a 1.29 GAA and .914 save percentage.
