Women’s Hockey Wins 30th Mayor’s Cup In Overtime Over No. 11/11 Brown, 3-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team defeated No. 11/11 Brown University, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. in the 30th Mayor's Cup. With the win, the Friars improved to 5-10-2 overall, while the Bears dropped to 8-4-1. Junior Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) scored two goals, including the overtime winner.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
-Brown opened the scoring 1:43 into the game on a goal from Olivia Fantino. Zoe Li and Ava DeCoste were credited with the assists.
 
-The teams skated scoreless the rest of the period. Providence killed off one Brown power play and held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
 
-Neither team scored in the second period. The Friars successfully killed another Bears power play and extended the edge in shots on goal to 22-14.
 
-Providence tied the game at 4:07 of the third period on a goal from junior Kiara Kraft (Churchville, N.Y.). Freshman Taylor Leemrijse (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Jessie Pellerin (Bowmanville, Ontario) recorded assists on the play. It marked Leemrijse's first career point.
 
-The Friars took the lead at 8:20 of the third on a goal from junior Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.), assisted by senior Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario) and senior Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario).
 
-Brown tied the game at two with 7:39 remaining in regulation. Ava DeCoste scored the goal, assisted by Olivia Fantino and Cadence Richards.
 
-The teams headed to overtime, marking the fifth overtime game of the season for the Friars and their second straight.
 
-Knapp secured the win with 2:14 remaining in overtime for her second goal of the game. Senior Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) and Kirchmair assisted. The goal marked Knapp's 15th career multi-point game and fourth of the season and Kirchmair's 23rd and fourth.
 
-Graduate student goaltender Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) made 22 saves for the Friars.
 
-The Friars improved to 16-11-3 all-time in the Mayor's Cup. Head Coach Matt Kelly is now 6-1-0 all-time against the Bears. Providence retains the Mayor's Cup after falling last season, 3-2.
 
-Providence moved to 2-7-0 on the road this season.
 
-The Friars improved to 3-6-0 in non-league games. Their final non-conference game is at Yale University on Monday, Jan. 19.
 
-Providence is now 3-5-0 against ranked opponents this season. Kelly is 24-45-6 all-time against ranked teams.
 
-Providence is now 2-5-0 against ECAC opponents this season.
 
-The Friars earned their first win of the season when trailing after 40 minutes.
 
-Providence moved to 3-0-2 in overtime games this season.

The Friars will close out the 2025-26 calendar year with a home-and-home series in Hockey East play against Merrimack College. Providence will host the Warriors at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m., before traveling to J. Thom Lawler Rink in North Andover, Mass. on Saturday, Dec. 6 for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
