2020 SOFTBALL SEASON REVIEW
Record: 6-11

• Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, spring practices and competitions were canceled on March 13 for the remainder of the season. The Friars completed their shortened season with a 6-11 overall record.
• The Friars posted a 3-2 record in the 2020 Clearwater Spring Break Invitational from March 6-8, earning wins against Florida A&M (7-5), Robert Morris (9-1) and Yale (8-2). Providence outscored opponents over the span of five games, 24-13.
• Two of the team's six victories came in walk-off fashion against George Mason (3-1) on Feb. 16 and Florida A&M (7-5) on March 6. Freshman Tiana Wren's first two collegiate home runs propelled the Friars to victory after hitting a two-run home run to left field to defeat George Mason followed by a three-run home run to defeat Florida A&M.
• Jessica Tomaso and Mackensie Compton combined to hit nine of the team's 13 home runs in the opening 18 games. Tomaso hit four runs with a .348 average compared to Compton's team-high five home runs and .314 average. The duo combined for 27 RBI's as each player started all 17 games. Tomaso was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 24 while Compton earned the same honor on March 9.
• Freshman pitcher Elysia Cunnigan had a strong start to the season with a team-low 2.17 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched.
• Tomaso's honor roll appearance on March 24 came after a career day against Merrimack on Feb. 23. Tomaso hit for a career-high six RBI after going 4-4 at the plate with a home run.
• Compton finished the season tied for sixth in the BIG EAST in home runs (five), including hitting her first career multi-home run game in Providence's 13-3 victory over Merrimack on Feb. 23. Tomaso earned the third highest on base percentage in the league with a .474 mark through 17 games.
