Field Hockey Blanks Brown, 3-0, For Second-Straight Shutout Victory

Kara Sanford netted two goals; Lydia Rice collected five saves for the clean sheet.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College field hockey team earned a sweep of its intra-state rivals as it earned a 3-0 shutout against Brown to close the weekend. On Friday night, the Friars defeated Bryant, 2-0.  Providence improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Bears evened their record at 1-1.
 
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) put the Friars on the board, 1-0, at the 20:02 mark. She scored unassisted after knocking home a rebound off the goalkeeper during a penalty corner.
 
- Senior Kara Sanford (Hazleton, Pa.) notched the first multi-goal game of her career with two goals within a span of two minutes and eight seconds in the third quarter.  
 
- Sanford's first goal came off an assist from graduate student Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.). Kenney fed the ball toward goal from the top of the circle for Sanford's redirect. Her second goal came off a crossing pass from senior Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.).
 
- Graduate student Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) registered her second-straight shutout victory on the season and owns seven clean sheets in her career. 
 
- Senior defender Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.) picked up a defensive save in the shut-out effort.
