PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team captured its first victory of the season, defeating UConn 2-1 on Aug. 22 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Junior
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) opened the scoring for Providence in the 38
th minute.
Christina Rodgers (Scotch Plains, N.J.) played a long ball up the sideline to
Kelsie Cummings (Millbury, Mass.) who beat her defender and crossed it directly to McNulty. Her one-time finish put the Friars up 1-0.
- Less than five minutes later, the Friars struck again. Rodgers buried a penalty kick after a UConn defender was called for a hand ball in the box.
- The Huskies cut the Friars' lead to one (2-1) in the 60
th minute. Kess Elmore dribbled across the box and took a right-footed shot that beat
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) low.
- UConn nearly leveled the score in the 72
nd minute. Duda Santin was alone in front for a one-timer, but Hogan slid across the goal line and denied the bid.
- The Huskies outshot the Friars 11-5 in the second half, but the Friars held on to claim the victory. Hogan made three saves over the final 45 minutes.
- McNulty led Providence offensively with 6 shots, including three on goal.
