Tiago Mendonca Named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team

Men’s Soccer Selected Third in BIG EAST Preseason Poll.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) of the Providence College men's soccer program was voted to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team announced by the conference office today (August 21). The Friars were picked to finish third in the conference standings.
Mendonca, a redshirt senior midfielder, has totaled 46 career games and 14 points. He has racked up seven goals in his three seasons with the Friars. He led the team in points (10) this past season, with five goals. He was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and Capitol City Classic All-Tournament Team. In 2016, he was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team. He was also named to the 2018-19 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Providence was voted to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Friars finished in a tie for second with Georgetown last season. They had an overall record of 10-7-2 and a 6-2-1 mark in BIG EAST play. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was selected to finish first with nine first place votes (81 points). Creighton, who finished first in regular season play last season, was picked second (68 points). Providence (65 points), Marquette (59 points) and Xavier (44 points) round out the top half of the poll. Butler (40 points), St. John's (33 points), Seton Hall (28 points), DePaul (21 points) and Villanova (11 points) finish out the standings. The Friars open the 2019 season at home on August 30 against UMass Lowell.
