Hayden Hawkey Named a Semifinalist for the 2019 Mike Richter Award

CHANHASSEN, Minn.Let's Play Hockey announced today the 10 semifinalists for the 2019 Mike Richter Award, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men's hockey. Providence College goaltender Hayden Hawkey (Parker, Colo.), who was named to the award's watch list back in October, was selected as a semifinalist.
 
Hawkey becomes the program's first Mike Richter Award semifinalist since the award's inception in 2014. This season, the senior netminder has a 21-9-5 record with a 1.77 goals against average and a .923 save percentage for the Friars. The 1.77 goals against average ranks third in the NCAA, while his seven shutouts are tied for the national lead. Over his last 12 games, Hawkey has posted a 1.16 GAA and .953 save percentage with an 8-2-2 record. This season, Hawkey became the program's record holder in career wins (69), career shutouts (15), single-season shutouts (7) and career games played by a goaltender (119).
 
The five finalists for the sixth annual award will be announced on Thursday, March 28, with the winner presented on Friday, April 12 at the 2019 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y. The semifinalists combine for a 1.96 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage and a grade-point average of 3.34. Hawkey, a finance major, has earned a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and is a three-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection.
