Providence, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team downed BIG EAST foe Seton Hall in straight-sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20. The Friars improve to 6-18 overall (1-10 BIG EAST) and the Pirates fall to 7-18 overall (2-9 BIG EAST).
First Set Highlights:
Providence took set one by a score of 25-16. Seton Hall held an early 10-5 lead, forcing a Providence timeout. The Friars closed the set on a 12-3 run, which included a 9-0 run.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Friars with five kills and a .714 hitting percentage.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded eight assists and
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) had a team-high five digs.
The Friars tallied three team blocks and held the Pirates to an overall .000 hitting percentage.
Second Set Highlights:
The Friars captured the second set, defeating the Pirates 25-23.
Alderson and Root each recorded three kills, while Barber racked up another eight-assist set. Alderson also tallied a team-high seven digs during the set.
Providence had four team blocks during set two.
Third Set Highlights:
The Friars took the third set, 25-20. A 6-0 run through the middle of the set helped Providence separate from the Pirates to win the set.
Root led Providence with five kills in the third set.
Barber led the set with eight sets and six digs.
As a team, the Friars recorded seven blocks and help the Pirates to a .087 hitting percentage in set three.
Match Highlights:
Barber led the Friars with nine kills in the match. Alderson and
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) each recorded eight kills.
Barber posted her 19
th double-double of the season, tallying 24 assists and 13 digs.
Barber, along with Alderson and Root, led Providence with 13 digs in the match.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) was the fourth Friar to finish with double-digit digs with 10.
The Friars totaled 14 team blocks and held the Pirates to a .097 hitting percentage in the match.
