PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell to St. John's in four sets. The Red Storm won the first two sets (25-22, 25-13) before the Friars rallied to win the third (26-24). St. John's went on to win the fourth set (25-18) to finish the match. The Friars fall to 6-19 overall (1-11 BIG EAST) and the Red Storm improve to 15-10 (7-9 BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the set. After the Friars brought it within two (13-11), the Red Storm went on an 8-2 run to create separation in the set (21-13). St. John's won the set, 25-22.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) tallied a set-high six kills on 11 total attacks (.455).
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) had a set-high 12 assists.
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) led the defensive end for the Friars with four digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: After a 4-3 St. John's lead, to start the set, the Red Storm went on an 8-2 run, forcing a Providence timeout (12-5). The Red Storm claimed the set, 25-13.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.),
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) and Root chipped in with two kills each.
Barber recorded six assists.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's broke the 4-4 tie by going on a 7-2 run (11-6). Providence rattled off five straight points to tie the set at 11. The remainder of the set was back and forth with Providence pulling out the victory, 26-24.
Root led the Friar offense with four kills on nine total attacks.
Barber had team-highs seven assists and five digs.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's started the set with a 9-1 run to take control of the set. The Red Storm held the lead throughout and won, 25-18.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) had a set-high six kills on 14 total attacks.
Barber led the Friars with nine assists.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a team-high six digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Root paced the Friar offense with 14 kills on 39 total attacks. Alderson was the only other Friar with double-digit kills (10).
Barber tallied 25 assists and eight digs.
Taylor led the team in digs (12).
As a team, the Friars had 43 kills on 129 total attacks, 41 digs, 40 assists and four total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars travel to Georgetown and Villanova on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. The match against Georgetown will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).
