PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team welcomes Seton Hall and St. John's to Alumni Hall this weekend for BIG EAST matches. The Friars take on the Pirates on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 p.m. and the Red Storm on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Friars fell to then-No. 10 Creighton, twice, this past weekend in straight sets. Providence stands at 5-18 overall (0-10 BIG EAST).
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has been a steady presence for the Friars. The junior has tallied 17 double-doubles and one triple-double on the season. The triple-double came in the first match against Seton Hall (Oct. 4) when she tallied 13 kills, 31 assists and 10 digs. Barber ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (8.35).
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) has stepped up for the Friars in recent matches. The freshman recorded her first double-double in a Friars uniform against No. 10 Creighton with 13 kills and 10 digs, in addition to seven assists and five total blocks.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) has paced the Friar offense, leading the team in kills the past five matches. Root registered her 1,000th career kill against Butler (Oct. 20).
SCOUTING THE PIRATES: Seton Hall comes to Providence having dropped its last five matches. The Pirates fell to DePaul and then-No. 11 Marquette this past weekend. The Pirates hold a 7-17 record (2-8 BIG EAST).
Hayley Gasser leads the Pirates' offense with 240 kills on the season, including 19 this past weekend against No.11 Marquette. Gasser ranks eighth in kills per set (2.96) and 10th in points per set (3.26) in the BIG EAST. Gasser has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice on the season.
Maggie Cvelbar ranks eighth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (8.08). Cvelbar averaged 9.86 assists per set this past weekend over seven sets.
Amanda Rachwal gave the Pirates an offensive boost with a career-high 19 kills with zero attack errors against DePaul.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM: St. Johns enters the weekend 14-9 overall (6-4 BIG EAST) after splitting its matches this past weekend. The Red Storm fell to Marquette and defeated DePaul. Both matches were decided in four sets.
Erica Di Maulo earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Rolls on Oct. 29 after posting a conference-high 10.88 assists per set. Di Maulo ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per set (9.93) and service aces per set (0.44).
Efrosini Alexakou leads the Red Storm offense, averaging 4.14 kills per set and 4.60 points per set. Alexakou has earned five conference accolades on the season.
Reigning BIG EAST Libero of the Year, Amanda Sanabia ranks sixth in digs per set (4.07) and tenth in service aces per set (0.31) in the BIG EAST.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars travel to Georgetown and Villanova on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9. The match against Georgetown will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).
