PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College field hockey team defeated non-conference foe Dartmouth, 5-1, on Oct. 6 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 7-4 overall, while Dartmouth dropped to 3-7 on the season.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence started the game strong, offensively, scoring three of its five goals in the first quarter. The three goals came during a of six minutes and 19-seconds.
• Sophomore
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ireland) notched her fourth goal of the season as she knocked home a feed from
Sydney Cramer (Sciota, Pa.) at the right post.
• Senior
Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) scored her first of the afternoon at 4:48 on a direct shot off a penalty corner. She was assisted by
Amanda Collins (San Diego, Calif.) and
Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario).
• Senior
Allyson Parker (Orange, Mass.) converted a penalty stroke opportunity to give Providence a 3-0 lead at 8:29 of the first quarter. It marked her first goal of the season.
• Collins made the score 4-0 at 38:33 in the third quarter as she tallied a goal for the second-straight game. Her goal was unassisted as she collected a rebound at the left post.
• Dartmouth found the back of the cage at 47:38 of the fourth quarter as Holley Cromwell redirected the ball into the cage off a feed from Margaret Barnes during a penalty corner.
• Mendez closed the scoring with her second of the game as she knocked home a loose ball behind the goalkeeper that was sent toward the net by senior
Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.). It marked Mendez's team-best seventh goal of the year.

Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) got the decision in the cage with four saves in 51:55 of action. She was replaced by
Camryn Kelbaugh (Hampstead, Md.), who made her collegiate debut for the Friars. Kelbaugh faced two penalty corner opportunities, but did not have to make a save.
