PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College field hockey team defeated Villanova, 3-1, in BIG EAST regular-season play on Oct. 4 in Conshohocken, Pa. The Friars improved to 6-4 overall with the victory and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. Villanova dropped to 3-6 overall (0-3 BIG EAST).
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:

Amanda Collins (San Diego, Calif.) got the Friars on the board at the 7:11 mark of the first quarter as she tallied her first goal of the season. She tipped in a feed from
Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) at the left post during a penalty corner.
• The Wildcats tied the score in the second quarter, on what proved to be Villanova's only shot on goal in the game. Emily Clarke found the back of the cage after the Wildcats extended a penalty corner opportunity. She was assisted by Riley Dolan.
• The Friars and Wildcats went into halftime deadlocked at 1-1. Providence held a 7-1 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in penalty corners in the first half.

Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ireland) put the Friars ahead, 2-1, on her third goal of the season at 33:14. She collected a rebound off an initial shot and sent it across the goal line with a reverse stick.

Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) gave the Friars an insurance goal at 48:12 as she converted her first tally of the season during a penalty corner. She was assisted by
Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.).
• Providence finished the game with a decisive edge in shots (19-6) and shots on goal (12-1). The Friars also earned eight penalty corners, while Villanova finished the game with seven.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 6 against non-conference opponent Dartmouth. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The match-up will serve as the program's annual Alumni Day and its Pink Out Friartown event.
