PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell in a hard-fought match to No. 10 Creighton in straight sets, 25-23, 27-25, 25-22. The Friars fall to 5-17 (0-9 BIG EAST) and the Bluejays stay a perfect 9-0 in the BIG EAST and 16-3 overall.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Following a Creighton timeout where Providence led, 12-11, Creighton went on a 10-2 run to claim the lead and separate itself in the set (21-14). The Friars countered with a 9-3 run to pull the set within one (24-23) but the Bluejays held on to win the set, 25-23.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) had a set-high five kills on 13 total attacks.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) registered a team-high eight assists to go with two digs.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied a set-high six digs.
The Friars recorded five total team blocks.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Creighton jumped out to a 7-3 lead following the break. After trailing 14-8, Providence went on an 8-3 run to pull it within one (17-16), forcing a Creighton timeout. The later third of the set went back and forth with no lead exceeding one until the conclusion of the game when Creighton pulled out a set victory, 27-25.
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) tallied a set-high eight kills on 10 total attacks. The freshman registered a .700 hitting percentage to go with two digs.
Barber had a team-high nine assists.
Taylor recorded a set-high five digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: After trailing 9-5, Providence went on a 5-2 run behind three Root kills to take Creighton's lead down to one (11-10) and forcing a Bluejays' timeout. Out of the timeout, the Bluejays went on a 5-1 run to create distance in the set (16-11). The Friars countered with their own 7-2 run to tie the set, 18-18. Creighton went on to win the set, 25-22.
Root paced the Friars with four kills on 15 total attacks.
Barber registered seven assists.
Mullally and Taylor recorded team-high five digs each.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Mullally recorded her first double-double in a Friars uniform. The freshman finished with a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs.
Barber tallied 24 assists.
Taylor had a team-best 16 digs.
As a team, the Friars had 38 kills on 112 total attacks, 49 digs, 36 assists and 10 total team blocks.
