The Friars host UAlbany (Sept. 7) and George Washington (Sept. 9)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team is set to host the University at Albany (Sept. 7) and George Washington University (Sept. 9). Friday's game is at 7:00 p.m., while Sunday's will be a 1:00 p.m. kick-off. Both games will be played on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.

Scouting the Great Danes
UAlbany enters Friday's match with a 2-2-0 record. The Great Danes defeated Marist (4-3) and Harvard (3-2, OT), but fell to No. 25 Colgate (2-1, OT) and St. Bonaventure (1-0). Nico Solabarrieta leads the team with five points, on two goals and an assist. Carlos Clark (two goals) and Kaio DaSilva (one goal, two assists) each have four points. In total, the Great Danes have had nine players register at least a point through the first four games. In net, Danny Vitiello has played all four games. He holds a 1.90 goals against average and a .500 save percentage.
 
Last season UAlbany reached the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Western Michigan. The Great Danes finished the season 15-4-2.
 
Scouting the Colonials
George Washington is 2-1-0 entering the weekend. The Colonials take on Brown on Friday (Sept. 7) before the matchup with Providence (Sept. 9). All three of the Colonials' opening games were at home. They defeated Stony Brook (3-2) and American (6-0) before falling to Lehigh (1-0). Sophomore Oscar Hayes Brown leads both the team and the nation in scoring, having already racked up seven goals and an assist through just three games. He scored three goals against Stony Brook and four against American. Drini Redzepi and Joshua Yurasits each have three points on three assists. Ten different players have registered at least a point for George Washington. In goal, senior Thor Arne Hofs has started all three games. He holds a 1.12 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
 
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are coming off a tough 2-1 road loss at Harvard (Sept. 3). Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) leads the Friars with six points off of three goals. Malcolm Duncan (Toronto, Ontario) and Alex DaCosta (Bristol, R.I.) trail with two points apiece. Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) and Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) are the other players that have notched points so far this season. In net, Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) has started all four games. He holds a 1.60 goals against average and a .650 save percentage.
 
Outshooting Opponents
The Friars have outshot opponents 57-47 through the first four games. Providence held Boston College  to five shots and Harvard to four shots. Over the course of those two games the Friars recorded 35 shots in comparison to the opposition's nine.
 
Fresh Friar Faces
The Friars' roster features ten newcomers for the 2018 season. Four of the ten have seen action for the Friars. Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.) has started all four games at center back, totaling 380 minutes on the young season. Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) has also seen significant minutes, making his first start against Harvard (Sept. 3). He recorded his first career point on an assist against Boston College (Aug. 31).
 
Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) and Raimondo Partito (Philadelphia, Pa.) have each come off the bench for the Friars.
 
Preseason Poll and Awards
Colin Miller was unanimously voted the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year entering the season. He also earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Teammate Danny Griffin joined Miller on the twelve-man squad.
 
In the coaches poll, the Friars were picked to finish tied for fourth in the conference standings. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was picked to finish first with seven first place votes (79 points). Butler, which finished first in regular season play last season, was picked second and received three first place votes (73 points). Xavier (60 points), Creighton (54 points) and Providence (54 points) round out the top half of the standings. Marquette (37 points), St. John's (33 points), Villanova (31 points), Seton Hall (20 points) and DePaul (9 points) filled out the rest of the table.
 
Up Next
The Friars open conference play at DePaul next weekend. The Sept. 14 matchup is slated for a 3:00 p.m. (ET) start. The next home game is Sept. 18 against URI (7:00 p.m.).
