Scouting the Musketeers
Xavier enters Saturday's game with a 3-1-4 record and a 1-0-1 mark in BIG EAST play. The Musketeers recently suffered their first loss of the season on the road at No. 20 Notre Dame, 4-1 (Sept. 25). Xavier opened BIG EAST play with an impressive 3-2 win at No. 8 Georgetown, scoring the game-winner in the 86
th minute. Simen Hestnes leads Xavier with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Tomek Pauer has three goals and an assist for seven points, while Matt Nance has six points on a goal and four assists. In net, Zachary Nelson has started all eight games. He holds a 1.00 goals against average and a .810 save percentage.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are coming off of a 1-1 week, featuring a 3-0 loss to Rhode Island (Sept. 18) and a 3-2 BIG EAST victory at Butler (Sept. 22).
Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) was the hero for the Friars in Indianapolis, scoring two goals in just four minutes to lift Providence to victory. The goals were the first of his career.
Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) scored the other goal in the match. The Friars trailed 1-0 at halftime, making the game the first comeback win of the season.
Tristan Stowell (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) and
Brendan Constantine (Glastonbury, Conn.) were the other Friars to record points, as they each picked up an assist.
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) leads the Friars in goals (four) and points (eight). Chisholm has five points (two goals, one assist), while Santos has four (two goals).
Malcolm Duncan (Toronto, Ontario),
Alex DaCosta (Bristol, R.I.) and
Matt DePerro (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) each have two. Duncan has two assists while DaCosta and DePerro have each scored a goal. In net, Miller holds a 1.50 goals against average and a .667 save percentage.
Stacking Up Against the BIG EAST
Providence is currently second in the BIG EAST in corner kicks. The Friars have 54 corners through nine games, averaging 6.00 per game. Providence is also third in shots in the BIG EAST, with 14.00 per game.
In terms of individuals,
Tiago Mendonca ranks tied for seventh in the league in goals and tied for tenth in points.
One-Goal Games
Through nine games, six of the Friars' contests have been decided by just one goal. Four of those six have been wins, including the recent 3-2 victory at Butler (Sept. 22).
Fresh Friar Faces
The Friars' roster features ten newcomers for the 2018 season. Six of the ten have seen action for the Friars.
Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.) has started all nine games at center back, totaling 847 minutes on the season.
Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) has also seen significant minutes, making five starts so far this season. He recorded his first career point on an assist against Boston College (Aug. 31).
Chisholm has made two starts and six total appearances. He notched his first assist (Sept. 7) and first goal (Sept. 9) in one weekend of action.
Raimondo Partito (Philadelphia, Pa.),
Christopher Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
Gil Santos have each come off the bench for the Friars. Santos just notched his first points with two goals at Butler (Sept. 22).
