INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Butler (3-2) on the road for the first time in program history on Sept. 22. The game was played in the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind., and also marked the Friars' first comeback win of the season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Providence almost jumped in front in the 20
th minute, as
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) settled the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and ripped a shot that was about a foot above the crossbar.
- Butler took the lead in 25
th minute on a set piece. Jack Haywood played his free kick to the back post where Alex Lehtinen headed it in past
Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.).
- Providence had a chance to tie the game in the 27
th minute, as Mendoca played a ball to
Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) at the penalty mark. Chisholm attempted to finish a volley off the bounce but put his shot over the crossbar.

Alex DaCosta (Bristol, R.I.) could not capitalize on Providence's best opportunity of the half. DaCosta had a breakaway with the Butler goalkeeper but slipped his shot just wide of the right post.
- Providence outshot Butler 9-3 in the first half.
- Chisholm netted the equalizer in the 59
th minute on a through ball from
Tristan Stowell (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) that Chisholm flicked over the goalie.

Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) gave the Friars the lead in the 76
th minute on his first career goal.
Brendan Constantine (Glastonbury, Conn.) played a beautiful ball to the back post where Santos headed it down past the left side of the Butler goalkeeper.
- Providence provided an insurance goal just four minutes later, as Santos notched his second of the game with an unbelievable strike from 25 yards out to the upper left corner.
- Butler was awarded a penalty kick in the 88
th minute, Lehtinen laced a shot to the bottom right corner past Miller for his second of the game.
- Providence outshot Butler 15-10.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Friars return home for another BIG EAST game against Xavier on Sept. 29. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The game will serve as the program's 50
