PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team is set to take on Boston College (Aug. 31) and Harvard University (Sept. 3). Friday's game against the Eagles is at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium while Monday's game is at 7:00 p.m. at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.

Scouting the Eagles
Boston College enters Friday's game with a 1-0-1 record. The Eagles defeated Quinnipiac (Aug. 24) by a score of 2-1. Senior Simon Enstrom scored both goals in the victory. On Aug. 27 Boston College played to a 3-3 draw with cross-town rival Boston University. The Eagles scored three second-half goals to force overtime. Enstrom notched another goal, pushing his season total to three in just two games. Other leaders for the Eagles are Lasse Lehmann (one goal, one assist) and Abe Bibas (one goal). Freshman Joe Fryatt has started both games in net. He played the full 90 minutes against Quinnipiac and just the first half against Boston University. He's made three saves on the season.
Scouting the Crimson
Harvard opens its season on Aug. 31 at Albany. Last year, the Crimson finished 2-10-4 overall and 1-4-2 in Ivy League play. Harvard returns three of its top five point scorers from last season, including Philip Hausen (three goals, three assists), Paolo Belloni-Urso (two goals, one assist) and Matthew Glass (one goal). Goalkeeper Kyle Parks, who started 14 games last season, graduated. Sophomore Matt Freese made three appearances in net, making seven saves.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars opened the season strong, knocking off No. 8 SMU in double overtime (Aug. 24). Junior
Alex DaCosta (Bristol, R.I.) scored the game-winner in the 104
th minute. Redshirt junior
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) scored the Friars' other goal in the victory.
Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made seven saves and was key in helping Providence defeat the Mustangs. On Sunday (Aug. 26), the University of Illinois at Chicago handed the Friars a 3-0 loss. Propelled by two goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation, the Flames ended up capturing the SMU Tournament title. Miller and DaCosta were both named to the SMU All-Tournament Team for their efforts.
Preseason Poll and Awards
Colin Miller was unanimously voted the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year entering the season. He also earned a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Teammate
Danny Griffin joined Miller on the twelve-man squad.
In the coaches poll, the Friars were picked to finish tied for fourth in the conference standings. Georgetown, the reigning tournament champion, was picked to finish first with seven first place votes (79 points). Butler, which finished first in regular season play last season, was picked second and received three first place votes (73 points). Xavier (60 points), Creighton (54 points) and Providence (54 points) round out the top half of the standings. Marquette (37 points), St. John's (33 points), Villanova (31 points), Seton Hall (20 points) and DePaul (9 points) filled out the rest of the table.

The Friars' roster features ten newcomers for the 2018 season.

Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) and
Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) round out the incoming class.
Qawasmy, Vang and Partito each saw their first career minutes during the SMU Tournament last weekend. Qawasmy started both games and totaled 180 minutes in the backline. Vang and Partito each came off the bench for the Friars.

The Friars' next two contests are at home on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Providence hosts the University at Albany on Sept. 7 at 7:00 p.m. and George Washington University on Sept. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
