Kick Off
The Friars will kick off against the Georgetown Hoyas in a BIG EAST Semifinal contest on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m. The game is set to be played at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C.
BIG EAST Semifinals All-Time
The Friars have played in the BIG EAST Semifinal Round 12 times, including five of the last six seasons. They hold a 4-8 record. The last three semifinal games for the Friars have been against Creighton. They have never appeared in a semifinal game as the No. 3 seed and hold a 1-1 record when facing No. 2 in this round.
How They Got Here
Providence hosted St. John's in a First Round game on Saturday, Nov. 3. Matt DePerro (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) scored the eventual game winner in the 15th minute of play. The goal was his third game winner of the season and second in three games. Brendan Constantine (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) both assisted the goal and earned their second assists of the season. Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) only had to make one save in his ninth shutout of the season. He broke his personal record for shutouts in a season, which had previously been eight. Providence outshot the Red Storm 7-4 and limited St. John's to just one shot on frame.
Last Time Against Georgetown
The Friars and Hoyas played recently, with Georgetown prevailing 2-1 on Oct. 24 in Providence. Danny Griffin (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored 3:20 into the game, but the Hoyas notched two second-half goals, including one in the 90th minute, to secure the victory. Foster McCune and Derek Dodson scored the goals. Georgetown held a 12-8 advantage in shots, inclduing a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal. Miller made five saves for the Friars.
Scouting the Friars
Tiago Mendonca (Faro, Portugal) leads the Friars in points (ten) and goals (five). Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) is close behind with seven points on three goals and an assist. Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) and Matt DePerro each have six points. Serrano has one goal and four assists, while DePerro has scored three goals, all game winners. Freshman Andualem Chisholm (Attleboro, Mass.) has two goals, an assist and five points. In net, Miller holds a 0.91 goals against average and a .742 save percentage. He's started all 18 games and has nine shutouts.
Stacking Up Shutouts
Providence has nine total shutouts this season, including six in regular season BIG EAST play. The team had a 463:59 minute streak of holding league opponents scoreless earlier this season. The Friars compiled four-straight league shutouts during that span. More recently, Providence has picked up three-straight shutouts. The current scoreless streak for opponents is 275:00. Seven of the last nine games have been clean sheets.

Through 18 games, 13 of the Friars' contests have been decided by just one goal. Nine of those thirteen have been wins. Providence's last three contests have all ended 1-0 in favor of the Friars.

BIG EAST Awards
Five Friars earned All-BIG EAST Awards, as announced by the league on Nov. 2. Tiago Mendonca was named to the First Team, while Colin Miller and Klisman Sousa (Sal, Cape Verde) picked up Second Team honors. Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsale, Pa.) and Gil Santos were both named to the All-BIG EAST Freshman Team. Providence has now had at least one First Team selection in four-consecutive seasons. The squad has had at least one Freshman Team member in the six-straight seasons.
Providence in the Regular Season
The Friars finished the regular season with a 9-6-2 mark and 6-2-1 BIG EAST record. Providence finished in a tie with Georgetown for second place, but due to the loss to the Hoyas earlier this season, the Friars are the No. 3 seed.
Friars Vs. Ranked Opponents
Providence has picked up victories over two top-25 opponents so far this season. The Friars defeated then-No. 8 SMU in double overtime, 2-1 (Aug. 24). Providence also took down then-No. 22 Xavier by a score of 2-0 (Sept. 29). More recently, the Friars battled to a 0-0 tie at No. 8 Creighton (Oct. 20) and fell to No. 24 Georgetown, 2-1 (Oct. 24).
Freshmen Impact
The Friars' roster features ten newcomers for the 2018 season. Six of the ten have seen action for the Friars. Ramzi Qawasmy has started all 18 games at center back, totaling 1,693 minutes on the season. Chisholm has made six starts and 15 total appearances. He was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after a three-point weekend (Sept. 10).
Santos has come alive in league play, making nine of his 11 appearances against BIG EAST opponents. He's scored three goals and added one assist. Kevin Vang, Raimondo Partito (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Christopher Roman (Glastonbury, Conn.) are the other Friars who have seen time on the pitch. Vang has made eight starts in 15 appearances, while Partito and Roman have each come off the bench. Vang picked up a critical point by assisting the game-winning goal in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal. Roman earned his first career point by assisting the overtime game-winner against Villanova (Oct. 27).
Scouting the Hoyas
Georgetown finished the regular season with a 10-4-3 overall record and a 6-2-1 record in conference play. The Hoyas ended the regular season in dramatic fashion, with a 2-1 overtime victory at then-No. 14 Creighton. The victory secured the bye and No. 2 seed for Geoegetown. As a team, Georgetown averages 1.53 goals and 17.53 shots per game. Defensively, they only allow 0.82 goals per game and have compiled seven shutouts.
Hoyas to Watch
All-BIG EAST First Team member Derek Dodson leads the Hoyas with 19 points off of nine goals and one assist. Achara, who also made the First Team, has six goals and a single assist for 13 points. Kyle Zajec has three goals and is tied for the team-lead in assists with six. BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Dylan Nealis also has six assists. He has eight total points. In net, Giannis Nikopolidis has played 14 games. He holds a 0.81 goals against average and a .813 save percentage with six shutouts.
