Men’s Soccer Falls at No. 19 Georgetown in the BIG EAST Tournament

The Friars concluded the 2018 season with a 10-7-2 record and reached the BIG EAST Semifinal for the fifth time in six seasons.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated 4-0 at No. 19 Georgetown in a BIG EAST Semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- The Hoyas outshot the Friars 8-4 in the opening 45 minutes, including a 2-0 advantage in shots on frame.
- Georgetown was awarded a penalty kick in the 30th minute, as Providence was called for a hand ball in the box. Kyle Zajec stepped up to the spot and converted to give the Hoyas a 1-0 lead.
- Zajec's goal was his fourth of the season and his third from the penalty marker.
- Providence was able to apply pressure in the beginning of the second half, possessing and getting forward more than in the opening 45 minutes.
- The Hoyas, however, extended their lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute. Riley Strassner headed the ball on goal, where Colin Miller (Bel Air, Md.) made a diving save. The rebound fell back to the feet of Strassner, who buried it.
- Gil Santos (Parede, Portugal) was assessed a red card in the 69th minute, forcing the Friars to finish the contest with just 10 men.
- Ethan Lochner scored two goals for the Hoyas in the 80th minute. His first was a rebound goal after another great save from Miller. His second, which came just 33 seconds later, was off of a through ball from Jacob Montes.
- Miller finished the game with 5 saves, while Giannis Nikopolidis had to make just one for Georgetown.
- The Friars were shutout for just the fifth time in 19 games this season.
