PROVIDENCE COLLEGE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIRD ANNUAL OCEAN STATE TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT... The Providence College women's basketball team will participate in the third annual Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament on Dec. 1-2. This year's tournament will be hosted by the University of Rhode Island at the Ryan Center in Kingston, R.I. The Friars will face URI in the opening game on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Noon, followed by a match-up between Bryant and Brown at 2:00 p.m. The consolation game (12 pm) and the championship game (2 pm) are slated for Sunday, Dec. 2.
ALL-TIME OCEAN STATE TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT RESULTS... The Friars are 2-2 all-time in the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament, with both losses coming against Brown University. Providence is 1-0 vs. Bryant and Rhode Island in the tournament.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE VS. RHODE ISLAND ALL-TIME... The Friars and Rams have played 48 times during the history of the two women's basketball programs. Providence leads the all-time series, 37-11, including victories in four of the last five meetings.
PROVIDENCE VS. RHODE ISLAND AT THE RYAN CENTER... The Friars and Rams have met seven times at the Ryan Center, since its doors opened in June of 2002, and Providence holds a 6-1 record at the venue. The Rams' only victory vs. Providence at the Ryan Center came on November 16, 2011. On that day, URI defeated Providence, 52-43.
PROVIDENCE VS. URI ALL-TIME IN KINGSTON... The Friars and Rams have met 18 times in Kingston, R.I. during the all-time series. The Friars lead the series in Kingston, 15-3, overall (6-1 at the Ryan Center).
PROVIDENCE VS. BROWN ALL-TIME... The Friars and Bears have met 26 times during the history of the two programs. Providence leads the all-time series, 18-8. However, the Bears have earned victories in four of the last five meetings, including each of the last three. The Friars are 0-2 vs. Brown in the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament.
PROVIDENCE VS. BRYANT ALL-TIME... The Friars and Bulldogs have met seven times in the history of the two programs. Providence leads the all-time series, 6-1, including victories in each of the last two meetings. The lone loss in the series came on Nov 30, 2014, as Bryant picked up a 90-80 victory in Smithfield.
FRIARS ENTER OCEAN STATE TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT ON THREE-GAME WIN STREAK... The Friars enter the Ocean State Tip-Off Tournament on a three-game win streak. Providence lost its first two games of the season by a combined total of six points. Since then, the Friars have reeled off victories against Sacred Heart (62-52), Boston College (61-57) and Yale (59-42). Its the longest win streak for the Friars since late November of last season, at which point PC won four-straight games.
THREE-STRAIGHT GAMES WITH 40+ REBOUNDS... The Friars have recorded 40-or-more rebounds in three-consecutive games for the first time since the 2014-15 season. That year, Providence hauled in 40+ rebounds in three-straight games against DePaul (47), Villanova (41) and Georgetown (43). In Providence's three most recent games, it has secured 47 boards against Sacred Heart, 46 vs. Boston College and 40 against Yale.
FRIARS RANK NINTH IN NCAA DIVISION I IN FIELD-GOAL PERCENTAGE DEFENSE... Through five games, the Friars lead the BIG EAST and rank ninth in the nation (NCAA Division I) in field-goal percentage defense. Providence has held its opponents to .308 shooting from the field (93-302). The national leader is Portland State (0.252).
DEFENDING THE THREE-POINT ARC... The Friars lead the BIG EAST and rank sixth in NCAA Division I in three-point field-goal percentage defense (.188, 18-96). The national leader is Miami (OH) (0.163).
DEFENSE... The Friars have held four of their five opponents to 30-percent shooting from the field or lower this season. Providence has posted a 3-1 record in those games, with its only defeat coming against Quinnipiac. Providence held the Bobcats to 27.9-percent from the field in a four-point loss (48-44). In the Friars' most recent game against Yale, they held the Bulldogs to just 23.5-percent from the field (12-51), marking their best field-goal percentage defense of the season.
FRIARS ARE 3-0 WHEN THEY OUT-REBOUND OR RECORD THE SAME NUMBER OF BOARDS AS THEIR OPPONENT... Providence owns a 3-0 record this season when they out-rebound or post the same number of rebounds as their opponents. On Nov. 21, the Friars recorded a season-best 47 boards in a win over Sacred Heart, while limiting the Pioneers to 28 rebounds. On Nov. 27, Providence held a 46-38 edge on the glass in a 61-57 win over Boston College. Most recently, Providence and Yale each finished the game with 40 rebounds in a 59-42 victory for the Friars.
FRIARS POST +19 ADVANTAGE ON THE BOARDS... The Friars' 47 boards vs. Sacred Heart on Nov. 21 are the most in a single game since Dec. 21, 2016, when the squad also hauled in 47 points vs. Monmouth. Additionally, Providence's +19 rebounding margin marked the largest rebounding margin for the Friars since out-rebounding UMass Lowell, 65-39 (+26), on Nov. 9, 2013.
MARY BASKERVILLE NARROWLY MISSES OUT ON FIRST COLLEGIATE DOUBLE-DOUBLE... Freshman forward Mary Baskerville narrowly missed out on her first career double-double in the Friars' 59-42 victory over Yale on Nov. 29. She notched career highs in points (nine) and rebounds (13) and added two assists, one blocked shot and one steal in 26 minutes of action. Baskerville hits 4-9 shots from the field.
JOVANA NOGIC AND MADDIE JOLIN COMBINE FOR 31 POINTS TO FUEL OFFENSE AGAINST YALE... Jovana Nogic (16 points) and Maddie Jolin (15 points) combined for 31 of the Friars' 59 points in a victory against Yale on Nov. 29. The duo fueled a decisive fourth quarter run, scoring 15 of the team's 18 points to lift the Friars to victory. Nogic tallied 10 of her game-high 16 points in the final quarter.
ALYSSA GEARY PROVIDES SPARK IN WIN OVER BOSTON COLLEGE... Freshman forward Alyssa Geary scored a career-high 13 points in the Friars' victory over Boston College on Nov. 27. She shot 4-7 from the field, including a 4-5 performance from behind the three-point arc. Geary also added six rebounds, one blocked shot and one steal in a career-high 27 minutes of action. Through five games, Geary is shooting a team-best .579 from the field (11-19), including an .714 shooting percentage from three-point territory (5-7).
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK... Five of the Friars' six newcomers have seen game action this season through five contests, including two players who are averaging 20+ minutes per game. Kaela Webb is averaging 20.2 minutes per game in her rookie campaign and is averaging 8.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. She's shooting an impressive 56.3-percent from three point territory (9-16). Alyssa Geary is averaging 19.8 minutes per contest and is averaging 6.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game. The duo has combined to shoot an impressive 14-23 from three-point territory (.609).
THREE-POINT THREATS... Joining proven three-point specialists Jovana Nogic and Maddie Jolin this season, freshmen Alyssa Geary and Kaela Webb are ranked first and second, respectively, in the BIG EAST in three-point field-goal percentage. Through five games, Geary is shooting .714 (5-7) from beyond the arc. Webb is shooting .563 (9-16) from deep.
NEARING CAREER RECORD FOR THREE POINTERS... The Providence College record for three-pointers made in a career was set by Julie Wheeler '98, with 252, in 101 games (1994-98). Senior guard Jovana Nogic has hit 243-589 attempts from three-point territory (.413) in 95 career games. Over the course of her career, Nogic has averaged 77 three-pointers per season. She needs nine three-pointers to tie Wheeler's record.
NOGIC HOLDS SINGLE-SEASON RECORD FOR THREE-POINTERS... Jovana Nogic set the Providence College single-season record for three-pointers, with 91, during the 2016-17 season. The previous record was held by Julie Wheeler '98, which she set during the 1994-95 season, with 82.
FRIARS HAND BOSTON COLLEGE FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON... Providence College defeated Boston College, 61-57, on Nov. 27 at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. It marked Boston College's first loss of the season (6-1), as the Friars improved to 2-2 on the year. The victory was the first for Providence at Conte Forum since Feb. 17, 1996. It's also the first back-to-back victories over the Eagles since 1993-1994.
STRONG FOURTH QUARTER FUELS FRIARS TO VICTORY OVER SACRED HEART... The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Sacred Heart, 62-52, on Nov. 21 for the Friars' first victory of the season. The Pioneers out-scored Providence, 20-9, in the third quarter to take a three-point lead heading into the final frame. The Friars dominated the fourth quarter with a 19-6 scoring advantage and a solid performance on the defensive end.
CHANELL WILLIAMS CLAIMS BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL... Sophomore Chanell Williams eclipsed the 20-point mark for the first time in her career at Providence with a 25-point effort against Sacred Heart on Nov. 21. Williams hit 12-of-16 shots from the field and added two rebounds and a game-high three assists. She scored nine of the Friars' 19 points in the decisive fourth quarter to lift Providence to a 62-52 victory. For her efforts, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 26. It marked the third BIG EAST Weekly honor of her career, having been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on two occasions last season.
OLIVIA ORLANDO LEADS THE FRIARS ON THE GLASS... Olivia Orlando hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds in the Friars' victory over Sacred Heart (Nov. 21). She has led the Friars in rebounding in three of five games, and ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in rebounds per game (7.6 rpg).
FOURTH QUARTER COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST QUINNIPIAC... The Providence College women's basketball team staged a fourth-quarter comeback, but fell short in a 48-44 loss to Quinnipiac on Nov. 15 in Providence, R.I. The Friars trailed by 13 (41-28) with 9:25 remaining in the game, but went on a 12-0 run to get within one (41-40) with 2:57 left on the clock. Jen Fay halted the run for the Bobcats with a pair of free throws, but Olivia Orlando answered with two made free throws on the other end to get back within one (43-42). Providence got a stop on the defensive end of the floor and looked to take its first lead since the 6:41 mark of the first quarter, but turned the ball over. Fay went to the line for Quinnipiac and missed both attempts, but the Bobcats kept control of the ball with an offensive board. After a timeout by Quinnipiac, Fay gave her team a 45-42 advantage with 1:22 to play. Senior Maddie Jolin hit two free throws for Providence with 50-seconds on the game clock to make the score 45-44. The Bobcats called timeout to advance the ball to mid-court and drew up another play for Fay, who hit a fall-away jumper as the shot clock was winding down. Providence brought the ball down the floor to the offensive end and called a timeout with 10.2-seconds left. The Friars turned the ball over on the inbounds play, and Fay sealed the win for Quinnipiac with a free throw. Jolin finished the night with nine points for the Friars. Orlando notched six points and a career-high nine rebounds.
FRIARS FALL TO PENN STATE IN SEASON OPENER... The Friars led by as many as 15 points with 3:48 remaining in the third quarter, but fell to Penn State, 74-72 in their season opener on Nov. 8 in University Park, Pa. Providence held the lead for just over 36 minutes of action, but Penn State used a 23-9 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to gain a tie the game, 72-72, with 36-seconds left on the clock. Providence committed a turnover on its next possession and Penn State's Sam Breen was fouled on the other end with 0.4 seconds left. Breen sank a pair of free throws to give the Nittany Lions their first lead since 4:13 of the first quarter (16-15). Providence called a timeout to advance the ball to mid-court and draw up a final play. Freshman Alyssa Geary converted a bucket off of a lob pass into the post, but the officials waved off the basket after a video review showing the ball was still in her hand as the clock expired.
KAELA WEBB NETS MOST POINTS IN COLLEGIATE DEBUT AT PROVIDENCE SINCE 2013... Freshman guard Kaela Webb came off the bench to score 15 points in her collegiate debut with the Friars against Penn State (Nov. 8). Her 15 points are the most by a freshman at Providence in their collegiate debut since Sarah Beal '17 posted 20 points vs. UMass Lowell on Nov. 9, 2013. She was 6-11 from the field (.545), including 2-4 shooting from three-point territory. She also recorded one rebound, two assists and two steals in 23 minutes of action.
SHARING THE ROCK... Providence dished 17 assists on 29 made field goals in its season opener at Penn State. Last season, the Friars recorded 17-or-more assists in just two games. PC dished a season-high 20 assists vs. Savannah State (11/21/17) and 17 assists against Xavier (1/19/18).
JOVANA NOGIC NAMED TO ANN MEYERS DRYSDALE AWARD WATCH LIST... On Oct. 23, it was announced that Jovana Nogic was named to the 20-player watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which is presented annually to the top shooting guard in NCAA Division I. It marks the second-straight season that Nogic has been featured on the watch list.
JOVANA NOGIC FEATURED ON 11-PLAYER PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM... Jovana Nogic was named to the 2018-19 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team on Oct. 25 at the league's annual media day at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Nogic is one of 11 players to earn preseason recognition. It marks the second-straight year that she has earned Preseason All-BIG EAST honors. Nogic was named an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention honoree at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.
1,000-POINT MILESTONE WITHIN REACH FOR MADDIE JOLIN... Maddie Jolin has recorded 792 career points during her career. She posted her best offensive season a year ago, totaling 330 points for an average of 10.6 points per game. Through five games, Jolin is averaging 8.4 points per game. She needs 208 points to become the 35th player in program history to score 1,000 points.
NOGIC RANKS 12TH ON FRIARS' ALL-TIME SCORING LIST... Jovana Nogic owns 1,303 career points (13.7 ppg) as a Friar. She currently ranks 12th on the Providence's all-time scoring list. Since the start of the season, she has jumped six spots on the career scoring list. Nogic trails Stephanie Cole '92, who sits in 11th place with 1,321 points.
FRIARS RETURN TOP-FOUR SCORERS FROM 2017-18... Providence College returns its top-four scorers from a season ago, led by Jovana Nogic (17.1 ppg) and Maddie Jolin (10.6 ppg). Clara Che finished third on the team in scoring average (6.9 ppg), followed by Chanell Williams (6.7 ppg). In all, the four players combined for 1,281 of the team's 1,850 points, accounting for 69.2-percent of the Friars' offense.
LOOKING BACK AT 2017-18 SEASON... The Friars finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 10-21 overall record and a 3-15 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Providence fell to Butler in overtime, 73-67, in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round, held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill.
FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH NINTH IN BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES' POLL... Providence College was picked to finish ninth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Oct. 25 at Madison Square Garden during the league's annual media day. DePaul and Marquette are co-favorites to win the league title, with each securing five first-place votes and 77 points.
PROVIDENCE SET THREE-POINT PERCENTAGE RECORD IN BACK-TO-BACK SEASONS... The Friars have set a single-season record for three-point field goal percentage each of the last two seasons. In 2016-17, Providence shot a school-record 0.374 from beyond the arc (192-514). Last season, the Friars topped the single-season record book, once again, shooting 0.391 from three-point territory (192-491).
MORE FROM DEEP... In each of the last two seasons, the Friars have connected on 192 three-point field goals. Providence's 192 three-pointers during the 2017-18 and 2016-17 are tied for the third-most triples in program history for a single season.
MADDIE JOLIN LOOKING TO BUILD OFF OF IMPRESSIVE JUNIOR CAMPAIGN... Last season, Maddie Jolin put together a solid junior campaign. She finished second among her teammates in scoring (10.6 ppg) and led the Friars in rebounding (4.7 rpg). Jolin also added 1.8 assists and 1.0 steal per contest. She found her rhythm from three-point territory and led the team in field-goal percentage from beyond the arc (.439, 66-158).
JOLIN FINISHED SECOND AMONG BIG EAST PLAYERS IN 3PT FIELD-GOAL PERCENTAGE... Maddie Jolin finished second among BIG EAST players in three-point field-goal percentage last season (.439, 66-158). Her percentage also ranked 21st among NCAA Division I players.
JOVANA NOGIC NOTCHED THIRD-HIGHEST SCORING TOTAL BY A JUNIOR IN PROGRAM HISTORY... Jovana Nogic's 513 points in 2017-18 marked the third-highest single-season scoring total by a junior in program history. The top-two on the list include, Friars' all-time leading scorer Tracy Lis (759) and Nadine Malcolm (628). Additionally, Nogic was the first player to eclipse 500 points in a single season since Chelsea Marandola (613) during the 2009-10 campaign.
NOGIC RANKS AMONG NCAA ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS FROM BEYOND THE ARC... Jovana Nogic ranks ninth among active NCAA Division I players in career three-point percentage (through games played Nov. 28). Nogic has hit 40.6-percent of her attempts from beyond the arc (240-591). Additionally, she ranks 18th among active NCAA career leaders in three-pointers made per game (2.55) and 13th in three-point field goals made (240).
FRIARS IN OVERTIME GAMES UNDER JIM CROWLEY... Providence is 2-4 in overtime games under the direction of second-year Friars Head Coach Jim Crowley. In his first season with the program (2016-17), Providence posted a 1-2 mark in overtime games. In 2017-18, Providence compiled a 1-2 mark in overtime. The Friars are 2-0 in overtime games when they score 90+ points, and they are 0-3 in overtime vs. BIG EAST Conference opponents.
WHAT'S UP NEXT... The Friars will face UMass Lowell on Dec. 8 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be played in Lowell, Mass. Providence will close its non-conference schedule with four-straight home games, beginning with Northeastern (Dec. 15). The remaining three games are part of the Friar Holiday Classic on Dec. 19-21. Providence will host Pepperdine, Northern Kentucky and La Salle.
BIG EAST OPENING WEEKEND... Providence will open the 2018-19 BIG EAST Conference schedule on the road with a pair of games against Marquette (Dec. 29) and DePaul (Dec. 31). Both teams are currently ranked in the national polls. In October, as the league's annual media day, it was revealed that Marquette and DePaul were picked as co-favorites to win the conference, with each team earning five first-place votes and 77 points.
