GAME FLOW & NOTES

Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) dove to her right to prevent the ball from going in the bottom left corner of the net.
- Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) gave the Friars the lead in the 31st minute. The goal was setup by a corner kick from Kayla Steeves (Needham, Mass.). The ball was headed around the box before Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) headed the ball into Birchwell lofted it over the goalie.
- St. John's outshot Providence in the first half, 8-5.
- The Red Storm tried to capitalize on some confusion in the box in the 65th minute. Camille Murphy (Seattle, Wash.) played a ball back to Hogan that the referee called an illegal pickup by the goalkeeper, resulting in an indirect free kick. Hogan was talking with the referee while St. John's quickly put the ball back into play, as Hogan retreated in net to deflect the ball off the crossbar.
- Just seven minutes later Hogan stopped a one-on-one breakaway and followed that up by deflecting the rebounded shot off the post.
- The Friars nearly added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Casey Estey (Kensington, N.H.) dribbled the ball into the 18-yard box on the left side before the St. John's goalkeeper made a falling save that she tipped away.
