Field Hockey Blanks Lafayette On Senior Day, 2-0

Lydia Rice earned her fifth shut-out victory of the season with six saves.


PROVIDENCE, R.I.
– The Providence College field hockey team defeated Lafayette, 2-0, on Oct. 14 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.  The Friars improved to 10-6 overall, while Lafayette dropped to 6-9 on the year.  Prior to the match, the program honored its five seniors: Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.), Kari Moyer (Perkasie, Pa.), Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.), Maura Ingraham (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Natalie Mitchell (East Norriton, Pa.).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS & NOTES
- Sophomore Sydney Cramer (Sciota, Pa.) tallied a goal for the second-straight game, giving Providence a 1-0 lead at the 15:18 mark of the first half. She carried the ball into the top of the circle and fired a hard shot that deflected off the goalkeeper and into the back of the cage.
- Providence maintained its 1-0 lead into halftime.  
- Lafayette held a 4-3 edge in shots and 3-0 advantage in penalty corners during the first half.
- Junior Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) added an insurance goal for Providence at 64:57.  She carried the ball into the circle and took a shot from the right side that managed to find open space on the left post.
- Lafayette elected to pull their goalkeeper in favor of a kicking back after Michals' goal.  However, the extra attacking player did not yield a goal for the Leopards.
- Senior goalkeeper Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) registered her fifth shut-out victory of the season with six saves.
- Lafayette outshot the Friars, 8-6, and finished the game with a 5-3 edge in corners.
