The Friars begin the weekend with a BIG EAST match on the road against the Bobcats.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (8-6, 2-2 BIG EAST): Providence College will travel to BIG EAST foe Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 12 for a 3:00 p.m. match in Hamden, Conn. The team will return home to Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. to host non-conference opponent Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars enter the weekend with an 8-6 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. With three league games remaining on the schedule, the Friars are currently in a three-way tie for third place in the BIG EAST with Georgetown (2-2) and Villanova (2-2). Â
The Friars started the season with an 0-3 record, but have won eight of their last 11 games, including five of the last six matches. Providence's only losses during the stretch have come against nationally-ranked opponents then-No. 14 Iowa (1-0), No. 15 Old Dominion (6-1) and No. 3 Connecticut (3-0).
Three players have cracked double-digits in the points column, led by junior Allyson Parker's (Orange, Mass.) 16 points on six goals and four assists. Junior Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) is second in scoring with 12 points on six goals, while sophomore Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario) has tallied 10 points on two goals and a team-best six assists.
Senior Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) has logged 894 minutes in the cage for Providence and has recorded a 1.49 goals against average and a 0.729 save percentage.
The Friars have outscored their opponents this season, 27-25. Seventeen of the team's 27 goals have come in the second half or overtime. Providence also has led its opponents in shots (176-144), shots on goal (111-86) and penalty corners (100-67).
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC (4-7, 1-3 BIG EAST):Â Quinnipiac enters the weekend with a 4-7 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Â
Makayla Adams leads the Bobcats in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Elisa van Winkel is second with nine points on four goals and one assist, while Brooke Whipkey checks in with eight points on three goals and two assists. Anna Walmsley is the only other Bobcats to tally multiple goals this season (two).
As a team, Quinnipiac averages 9.0 shot attempts per game and has been outshot by its opponents, 180-99. However, they have recorded a 0.677 shots on goal percentage as 67 of the Bobcats 99 shot attempts have been on target. Quinnipiac has registered 49 penalty corners, while giving up 87 to its opponents.
In goal, Hannah Teicher has played 629 minutes and owns a 3.23 goals against average and a 0.592 save percentage. Alicia Galasso has seen action in three games, totaling 138 minutes. Galasso has compiled a 5.59 goals against average and a 0.621 save percentage.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE (5-8): Lafayette enters the weekend with a 5-8 overall record and will play Holy Cross in Patriot League action before making its way to Providence to face the Friars on Oct. 14. The Leopards have won each of their last three games against Villanova (5-2), Colgate (5-4) and Penn (2-1). Lafayette has been heating up offensively, having recorded 16 goals in its previous four games. Prior to the four-game stretch, the Leopards scored just 13 goals in the first nine matches of the season.
Lisa van der Geest leads the team in scoring with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Theresa Delahanty is second with 11 points on three goals and a team-best five assists. Molly McAndrew also has cracked double figures in the scoring column with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
Sarah Park has played the majority of minutes in the cage for Lafayette (885) and owns a 3.42 goals against average and a 0.598 save percentage.
