Box Score | Senior Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Men's Hockey's 10 seniors were honored prior to the game on Saturday night for their stellar careers and that set the tone as they combined for five goals and eight assists in a 6-0 blanking of UMass.

The win coupled with Boston College's loss at UMass Lowell gives the Friars (25-5-4, 16-3-3 HEA) a tie for first in the Hockey East standings and a share of the Hockey East regular season crown, the first in program history. The 16 Hockey East wins are the most in the season for the program.

Trevor Mingoia led the way with a career high five points, while teammate Mark Jankowski chipped in with two goals and two assists. John Gilmour (goal, assist) and Nick Saracino (two assists) also found the scoresheet in a memorable night for the Friar seniors.

Nick Ellis (8 saves), Hayden Hawkey (10 saves), and Brendan Leahy (5 saves) all combined for the fifth shutout of the season for Providence.

Josh Monk recorded his second career goal and added an assist to run his career-best point streak to four games (1-5-6).

The Friars jumped on the board just 5:58 in and never looked back as Jankowski hammered home his 14th of the season on a rebound off an Erik Foley shot. Later in the period, Providence cashed in twice in the span of 48 seconds as Mingoia and John Gilmour netted goals to put the Friars up 3-0 after one period.

After UMass' Steven Iacobellis was ejected for contact to the head, Josh Monk followed up with a power play goal for his second of the season just 45 seconds into the second. Mingoia notched his second of the night at the tail-end of the major to put the Friars up 5-0.

Jankowski capped the scoring just 2:45 later as he roofed a shot over the glove of Nic Renyard into the top corner to match teammate Brandon Tanev for the team lead with 15 goals.

Junior goaltender Brendan Leahy made his second career appearance and made five saves in the final 4:07.

Up next, the Friars await their opponent in the Hockey East Quarterfinals to take place at Schneider Arena from March 11-13 in a best-of-three series.
