Philip Svedeback made 29 saves for the Friars on Sunday.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Aleksi Kivioja and Logan Sawyer scored as the No. 9/8 Providence College men's hockey team defeated No. 13 Quinnipiac, 2-1, in an exhibition game at Schneider Arena on Sunday (Oct. 5).

NOTES

- The Bobcats got on the board at 5:49 of the first period as Ben Riche beat Svedeback on a breakaway.

- Providence tied things up at 9:36 as Clint Levens centered a pass to Aleksi Kivioja and his one-timer beat Marinov to even the score at 1-1.

- Later in the period, Levens had an apparent goal waived off after review after the puck was determined to not cross the goal line.

- The Friars began to generate more offense in the second period. outshooting the Bobcats by a 17-11 margin in the middle frame.

- Logan Sawyer's power-play goal gave the Friars a 2-1 lead at 7:32 of the period with assists from Kale McCallum and Hudson Malinoski.

- The Providence penalty kill unit proved to be the difference in the third period as the Friars killed off all four power-play chances for the Bobcats in the final 20 minutes.

- Philip Svedeback stood tall stopping all 10 shots he faced in the third period.

- Quinnipiac pulled Marinov for an extra attacker with 5:21 to play but the Friars' defense held firm.

- The Friars blocked 21 shots overall and 12 in the third period to preserve the win.
