WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Providence College men's hockey junior goaltender Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine) has been named the Hockey East's Stop It Goaltender of the Month for December (Jan. 6).

Gillies, who was also named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month in November, went 4-1-0 in December with a 1.41 goals against average and a .949 save percentage. He stopped 130 of the 137 shots he faced in the month and opponents only scored three even strength goals against Gillies in the five games.

Gillies helped lead the Friars to the 2014 Catamount Cup title, including a 3-0 shutout win over Vermont in the championship game. He turned aside all 29 shots he faced in that contest to post his 13th career shutout. It marked the first in-season tournament win for the Friars since the 2005-06 season.

Gillies has a 1.86 goals-against average on the season and a .938 save percentage, which ranks seventh in the country. He is also 11-6-1 on the year and his four shutouts rank tied for first in the country.

Gillies and the 13/14th-ranked Friars close out their non-conference slate this weekend with a home-and-home Mayor's Cup series versus Brown on Friday, Jan. 9 (Meehan Auditorium) and Saturday, Jan. 10 (Schneider Arena). Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
