HAMDEN, CONN. - The Providence College womenÂ?fs soccer team played the Quinnipiac Bobcats Sunday, August 26 in an afternoon contest in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats defeated the Friars, 1-0.
The Bobcats jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth minute of the game. Aine McKeever took a free kick from outside the 18-yard box and her strike reached the back of the net. Despite outshooting the Bobcats, 5-3, in the first half, the Friars went into the second half trailing 1-0.
The second half was scoreless and the game ended in a 1-0 decision in favor of Quinnipiac. Although the Bobcats came out on top, the Friars outshot Quinnipiac, 10-8, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 4-3. Providence goalkeeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) finished the game with three saves.
Providence is back in action on Friday, August 31, in Providence, R.I. for an afternoon match-up with Lehigh. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and will be played on Glay Field.
