CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Providence College women's soccer team opened up its 2012 season on Friday, August 17 at #11 Boston College. The Friars fell to the Eagles, 3-0.
The Friars were able to withstand the pressure of the Eagles for the first 40 minutes of the game. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 42nd minute as Kristen Mewis found the back of the net off of a feed from Mckenzie Meehan. They added a second goal as the half expired when Meehan scored off of Mewis' rebound. Patrice Vettori scored the Eagles' third goal 11 minutes into the second half. She headed in a cross from teammate Rachel Davitt.
The Eagles out-shot the Friars, 18-7. Providence goalkeeper, Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.), finished the game with four saves. Boston College held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.
The Friars have their season home opener Sunday, August 19 vs. Army. The game will be played at 1:00 p.m. at Glay Field in Providence, R.I..
