Jacksonville, Fla. - Providence College Volleyball defeated Citadel, 3-0 on Saturday, September 1 in its first match of day 2 of the Loop Pizza Grill Tournament. Providence won the games by the scores 30-21,30-27, 30-21. The Friars were led by junior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) who had 15 kills each. With the win, Providence improves to 3-1 on the season. With the loss, Citadel drops to 1-2.
The win marks the third 3-0 sweep of the season for the Friars. Junior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had a game-high 34 assists. Senior Sarah Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.) added her third double-figure kill match with 13.
The Friars will conclude their participation in the tournament with a 7:00 pm game against the host school Jacksonville.
