Jacksonville, Fla. - The Providence College volleyball team dropped its first match of the season on Friday, August 31 to Presbyterian College, 3-1 by the scores of 30-24, 30-20, 21-30, 30-27. Junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) led three Friars in double-figure kills with 19. Senior Sarah Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.) added 16 kills and junior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded 14 kills for Providence. With the loss, the Friars drop to 2-1 on the season while Presbyterian improves to 1-4.
The Friars dropped the first two games of the match by a narrow margin before rebounding for a game three victory. The fourth game saw both teams battle back and forth before Presbyterian sealed the match with a 30-27 game four win. Lauren Mason had a game-high 21 kills for the Blue Hose. Junior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had a game-high 46 assists.
Providence College will be in action on Saturday, September 1 with two games in the final day of the Loop Pizza Grill Invitational. The Friars will play Citadel at 10:00 am and Jacksonville at 7:00 pm.
