Savannah, Ga. - The Providence College volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-0 sweep of Savannah State on Thursday, August 30. Providence won the match by the scores 30-18, 30-25, 30-13. The Friars were led by junior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) who recorded a match-high 11 kills and five blocking assists. With the loss Savannah State drops to 0-4.
Senior co-captain Sarah Fleming (St. Paul, Minn.) registered nine kills and three aces for the Friars. Junior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) tallied a match-high 27 assists. Donna Jenkins led Savannah State with 10 kills.
Providence will head down Rte. 95 to Jacksonville and play Presbyterian on Friday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the first match of the Loop Pizza Grill Invitational.
