PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's basketball team was picked to finish 10th of 16 schools in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday, October 25 at the BIG EAST Media Day at Madison Square Garden in New York. Pittsburgh was picked first in the conference, followed by Georgetown, Syracuse, Marquette and Connecticut to round out the top five.
After Connecticut, the coaches picked Louisville, Villanova, DePaul and St. John's in front of the Friars. Notre Dame, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Seton Hall and USF were selected to finish 11-16, respectively.
Providence College will open its 2006-07 season with an exhibition game against the University of New Haven on November 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The team will open its regular season against Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
On Saturday, October 28, the Friars will hold a Fanfest at the Dunkin' Donuts Center from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The event is free and fans are encouraged to come and watch the team play its annual Mal Brown Scrimmage at 3:00 p.m. The team will sign autographs following the event.
Tickets for all Providence College men's basketball games may be purchased at the Dunkin' Donuts Center or at the Providence College Ticket Office in Alumni Hall or by visiting the Providence College athletic website at www.friars.com. Tickets also may be purchased by calling the PC ticket office at 401-865-GOPC.
