PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Providence College volleyball team (0-1) lost its season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson (1-0) this afternoon in the opening round of the LaSalle Tournament held in Philadelphia, Pa. It was a tightly contested match with all five games decided by seven points or less, including the finale which saw PC come up just short in a 17-15 decision.
Senior Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) led PC with game-highs of 19 kills and 15 digs, while freshman Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) turned in a double-digit total of 14 kills in her collegiate debut.
Senior Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) turned in a solid performance with 20 assists, while freshman Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) had a solid freshman debut as well with 18 assists. Fiorvanti also tallied a double-double with 14 digs. In fact, four Friars turned in double-digit dig performances as freshman Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) chipped in 14, and sophomore Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) had 11.
PC totaled 80 digs as a team, as well as 10 blocks.
The PC volleyball team (0-2) lost its second heartbreaker of the day with a 3-2 loss against host La Salle at the La Salle Invitational. PC led 2-0, but lost the next three games. Senior Annie Fiorvanti led the squad with 20 assists and 14 digs.
Freshman Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) also turned in a solid effort totaling a team-high 18 digs.
PC volleyball returns to action in Day Two of the tournament with a pair of contests on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Friars will face Bucknell at 10:00 a.m.
