HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Providence College volleyball team (0-8) was defeated in a pair of matches at the Colgate Invitational Saturday evening. PC lost to Fordham (9-2) this afternoon, 3-0, by scores of 30-14, 30-19 and 30-21. The Friars also lost to host Colgate (1-7) in the nightcap, 3-1, by scores of 30-17, 31-29, 30-15 and 30-26.
In the tournament finale against Colgate, the senior Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) posted one of the top matches of her collegiate career with 30 assists and a career-high 20 digs. Freshman Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) also had a tremendous outing with 20 digs herself. It is believed to be the first time under the direction of Head Coach Margot Royer, that two Friars have posted totals of 20 digs or more. Senior Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) turned in a solid effort as well with a team-high 13 kills. The Friars tallied 71 digs as a team, as well as 5.0 blocks.
Against Fordham, the Friars were led by Fiorvanti who totaled 20 assists and Little who tallied 11 digs.
For her performance, Fiorvanti was named to the All-Tournament team.
Providence volleyball returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 14th as it travels to Worcester, Mass., for a match against the Crusaders. It is slated to begin at 7:00 pm.
